Fall Garden cleanup - The hollow stems of perennials offer nesting overwintering spots for insects, which become a vital food source for birds. The birds will help control pests during next year’s garden season.

A bumblebee can only fly for about 40 minutes between feeding. But we've lost 97% of our wiłdflower meadows. So each nectar-rich flower you plant in a windowbox or your garden or community green space could be the pit stop that saves a bee 🐝

One mature tree absorbs about 22 kg of CO₂ a year.
Plant 1,000 trees and that's 22 tonnes pulled from the air, every year, for decades.
Small seeds. Big math. 🌱
One of the main primer pheromones is the “queen signal”. It is a special blend of pheromones. The queen signal encourages workers to do their jobs, prevents them from raising new queens, and stops them from laying eggs.

Wetlands, forests, floodplains and shorelines do more than create natural beauty — they function as critical infrastructure within the watershed.
Wetlands store and slow floodwater. Forests filter water and stabilize landscapes.

With the Ball's Falls Thanksgiving Festival approaching, we’re looking back at this landmark and the conservation work that helps protect it for generations to come.
As we mark 80 years of conservation, we’re proud to be part of Ball’s Falls’ ongoing story. 💚
In Niagara right now, native plants are:
• Echinacea seed heads feeding winter birds
• Cup Plant & Liatris stems holding snow, protecting soil, & sheltering insects
• Evening Primrose completing its life cycle by leaving seed for next season
Winter bees are fed a diet that is scarce of protein rich pollen. This causes them to develop an extra large fat body to regulate their metabolism & produces vitellogenin, that enhances the bees’ immune system. This allows them to live up to 6 months.
