It was a rewarding multifaceted and insightful dialogue, exceptionally curated by John Maytham. I still believe, my profile aside, your “Legends” book makes an excellent introduction to our troubled history and the events and people who shaped it. I learned a lot more about Cissie Gool, Miriam Makeba and Olive Schreiber, in particular🇿🇦
Had a great time talking about #Legends at @FranLitFest with @ThuliMadonsela3, John Maytham, Adekeye Adebajo and @BlackmansReview. Also attended a cool session hosted by @marclottering about the new book #Coloured. Fantastic to see so many people engaging with (and buying) books!
Really looking forward to discussing #Legends with @ThuliMadonsela3, John Maytham, @BlackmansReview and Adekeye Adebajo at @FranLitFest this weekend.

With less than two weeks to go untill #electionday, here's a not-so-gentle reminder that #SpoiltBallots by @NickGDall + @BlackmansReview is the only book that details South Africa's long history of electoral dysfunction.

60 years ago during the Rivonia Trial in South Africa, Nelson Mandela delivered one of the most famous speeches of the 20th century.
He expected to be sentenced to death but instead lived to see his dream ‘of a democratic and free society’ realised.

In this discussion they look back at Mzansi’s gamechangers whom we can all be proud of. From King Moshoeshoe, Olive Schreiner, Gandhi, Eugène Marais, Sol Plaatje and Miriam Makeba to Steve Biko and Thuli Madonsela – to name but a few!

So in the Israel - HAMAS war, over the past 180 days, more than 41000 PALESTINIANS have been killed (incl those not found under rubble).
Were these 41000 Palestinians Hamas?
Were the 15370 CHILDREN and 9671 WOMEN Hamas?
When will this insanity end? When will humanity wake up?
I've been meaning to write about #JustNuisance for years. Finally got around to it. Such a cool story. aljazeera.com/news/2024/4/6/…

I would not be surprised if a person who woke up from a coma just after October 7, 2023 thought the TV images and videos of the barbaric mass killing of babies, children, women and other civilians plus destruction of hospitals and other valuable civilian buildings and mass displacement of people in Gaza Palestine was simply a movie from the brutish medieval times where there were no international guardrails for waging war in a civilised way #StandUp4HumanRights #StopTheGenocide #SaveGaza #SavePalestine⚖️🕊

Got a real kick out of reporting this story about a South African innovation that's making a real difference to both people and planet. Did I mention that #MannaBrew also tastes good? aljazeera.com/features/2024/…
