Already on the bottom of of the OECD list of how countries treat their pensioners. Can you get any lower than FREEZING one of the lowest pension of the "civilised" world??🔰

Coronation Street - written by Brian Finch (27th October 1976). Because Stan and Hilda were often used for comic relief, any scenes with a real dramatic punch - like this one - always carried a little extra impact.

A Wren dispatch rider, London, c.1942.
During the Second World War, women of the WRNS (Women’s Royal Naval Service) took to motorcycles to carry important messages and documents across London.
Here a Wren checks her leather dispatch pouch beside her Triumph motorcycle. Many of these women were already experienced motorcyclists before joining up.
A striking glimpse of the women who helped keep Britain’s wartime communications moving.

Premier Ford faced tough questions on the alleged misuse of public money on the first day of the fall sitting.
Ford defended Stan Cho’s $22,500 pay bump.: "I fired him from being a minister. He admitted he made a mistake. He's paid it back, and now he's going to be a parliamentary assistant."
He also insisted his government was quick to act to stop "fraudsters" from exploiting the OSAP system

A wholesome pub conversation in the old #fen accent.
The Fen accent is a distinct regional variety of East Anglian English spoken in the marshlands and flatlands of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, and Lincolnshire. It developed from a mix of Northern and Southern English dialects, old Norse, and Dutch influences, shaped heavily by the historic isolation of the Fenland communities.
They don't make them like they used to.. 🍻

From a film encouraging people to leave the towns and cities behind and enjoy the countryside. With Britain’s new National Parks opening, walking and exploring were promoted as an affordable way to enjoy fresh air, exercise and an escape from post-war urban life.

26th October 1888 Western Mail. THE SWANSEA PAVILION. ‘Some time ago a company was formed for the purpose of erecting a music-hall and restaurant on the corner of High-street and Prince of Wales-road, one of the most populous districts in Swansea. The site is in form triangular.’

So much can be contained in a tiny glimpse of a view. I love this jumble of rooflines in Ashford-in-the-Water, none quite the same height or shape or angle, as if they've risen up out of the fields themselves, rather than subject to the hands and plans and designs of men. They looked perfect in the autumn light on this quiet morning, smoking chimneys hinting at cosy warmth inside, and nothing moving but a few cows in the fields above.

NEW: I asked Health Minister Sylvia Jones why cancer patients like 31-yr-old Sabrina Apitz-Grossman are being denied funding for potentially life-saving treatment abroad.
Jones defended the government's decision to tighten its rules for funding out-of-country drug treatments.

A day out at Dreamland, Margate, in 1929!
Holidaymakers enjoy the miniature railway, fairground rides and the famous Scenic Railway, which had opened nine years earlier in 1920.
Dreamland was already becoming one of Britain’s best loved seaside attractions.
