It is the paradox of power that those who do not covet it must be those who wield it. If we abandon power then it will be seized upon in avarice. "One of the penalties of refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors." - The Republic

The core of Sauron's sin was attempting to create things without the wisdom to bear their moral consequences. (In The Silmarillion, he rebels against God) This sin, as you say, infects everyone involved with the Ring: it offers unearned power that people cannot wield wisely

In the Lord of the Rings, the One Ring was never about magic. Most people think the Ring is powerful because it can make you invisible. The real horror of the Ring is that it behaves exactly like power in our world. It corrupts without being used, it tempts the wise, and it destroys the will of the one who carries it.

There is no such thing as a dead tree 🪾✨ A standing dead tree is known as a snag and they quickly become stand alone vertical worlds filled with life 🪶🪲 Woodpeckers, new arrivals in Ireland, carve out holes that later shelter owls, bats & tits🦉🪚 Beetles, moths & other insects move in supporting the vast array of predators that rely on them 🐞 Raptors use its bare branches as watchpoints, and small mammals hide within its hollowing wood 🦅🐁 Leaving a dead tree standing is a real Christmas gift to nature and biodiversity 🎄🎁

They need to read the story of Eyam, a village in Derbyshire, England, where people voluntarily isolated themselves for 14 months, to avoid the plague spreading beyond the village. Goodness knows how many lives they saved.

Nail clippers. They existed even among the Romans 2000 years ago. A lever was added about 100 years ago. We are in the 21st century, but we are still busy cutting our nails.
