I absolutely love it for multiple reasons.
#Mammootty was inarguably the bigger star than #Mohanlal back then, yet the poster gives Mohanlal's face greater prominence. And if you look at the character hierarchy in terms of importance in the film, it would roughly be:
Seema
Mammootty
Master Vimal
Mohanlal
Shobhana
But those were the days when egos were far less important than the film itself. A poster like this would be almost impossible to imagine in Malayalam cinema over the last three decades.
#Anubandham is one of the classics from the legendary I V Sasi – M T Vasudevan Nair combination (the same duo that gave Mammootty his first lead role through #Thrishna). It is also one of those rare films that brought out the subtle, understated side of Mammootty's acting.
That was an era when Mammootty and Mohanlal were first and foremost actors, not merely stars. And I genuinely believe this is precisely where #Patriot went completely wrong.

Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal are both talented actors.
Let's leave aside the fact that Kamal Haasan can handle many things in filmmaking apart from acting. When it comes to acting alone, Kamal Haasan is more versatile than Mohanlal.
It must be said that there are hardly any roles Kamal Haasan cannot perform.
Dance, fights, emotional scenes, comedy — any role is safe in his hands. He can do mimicry, portray a woman, and even play a ninety-year-old grandmother.
When he plays a double role, he can give each character completely different mannerisms and personalities. His performances are so remarkable that it feels as though Kamal Haasan was born for cinema.
Mohanlal can dance, fight, and perform comedy, but he has certain limitations.
However, there are some roles that perhaps no other actor in India could perform with the same perfection as him. Watching the remakes of Mohanlal's films makes this clear.
Kamal Haasan played the role originally portrayed by Mohanlal in Drishyam in its Tamil remake, Papanasam. Yet even Kamal Haasan couldn't quite match Mohanlal's performance in the original.
Similarly, famous Indian actors like Chiranjeevi, Akshay Kumar, and Salman Khan have starred in remakes of Mohanlal's films.
Just watch the originals alongside their remakes, and you'll understand Mohanlal's range as an actor.
A remake can sometimes surpass the original, but that hasn't always been the case with Mohanlal's films.
Other actors might even outperform him in remakes of some of his less conventional roles, but many such films were never remade in other languages because they weren't commercially successful.
When comparing both actors across all aspects of acting, however, we have to admit that Kamal Haasan stands slightly above Mohanlal.

I called 📞 Red Giant Studios to know the Tamil Nadu gross. The movie has grossed ₹135Cr and is expected to reach ₹142Cr in 8 days. There are no competing movies over the next 2 weeks. Bookings for October 23 and the 2nd weekend are good, although pre-Diwali collections next weekend may be slightly lower. The current expectation is a ₹225Cr–₹230Cr gross with a ₹125Cr share, equal to #Leo’s share.
🌍 OVERSEAS: #Leo set the benchmark with ₹205Cr gross overseas. #Jailer2 achieved the same in just 1 week, grossing ₹205Cr. With another 10% growth, it could reach ₹230Cr and become the highest-grossing Tamil film overseas.
🇮🇳 NORTH INDIA: 3 original Hindi movies made on budgets of ₹25Cr–₹30Cr couldn’t stand in front of #Jailer2 and became washouts at the box office. The Hindi version didn’t release in PVR/INOX due to the 8-week OTT window. Had it released there, the Hindi version alone could have grossed ₹200Cr. It has already grossed ₹35Cr in 1 week, is expected to reach ₹50Cr next week and could go up to ₹60Cr. #Jailer2 will become the highest-grossing Tamil film in North India without a multiplex release.
#2Point0 had #AkshayKumar’s presence in its Hindi version and grossed ₹250Cr–₹270Cr in Hindi alone, so it cannot be compared with #Jailer2. The multiplex restriction has potentially cost the film ₹200Cr–₹250Cr in revenue, making a ₹1,000Cr worldwide gross difficult. North Indian audiences are enjoying the combination of #HrithikRoshan, #VidyaBalan and #JackieShroff, with #SuperstarRajinikanth as the centre of attraction. They are even watching the Tamil version in Hindi multiplexes.
🔥 KERALA: #Jailer2 has grossed over ₹60Cr and is now the No. 1 Tamil film in Kerala, delivering an extraordinary, record-breaking success. Initially, distributors were concerned about recovering their investment at the price they paid, but the lifetime gross is now expected to reach ₹75Cr. Despite opposition over the #Mohanlal cameo that it wasn’t used properly, audiences didn’t care and made it a blockbuster.
🔥 KARNATAKA: #Jailer2 is expected to overtake #Jailer’s ₹85Cr gross and become the highest-grossing Tamil film in Karnataka. Both films in the franchise are now among Tamil cinema’s biggest box-office successes.
💥 ANDHRA PRADESH & TELANGANA: The performance is extraordinary. #Ranabaali made on a budget of ₹95Cr–₹100Cr couldn’t stand in front of #Jailer2 the film has grossed ₹72.5Cr in its 1st week and is expected to cross ₹100Cr. Many are calling it a costly miss for Dil Raju, who had a good relationship with Sun Pictures but didn’t acquire the film due to the high MG. With the hire system operating in AP/TG, the distributor could earn a ₹60Cr share from the region alone.
🏆 WORLDWIDE: The total worldwide gross is expected to reach ₹750Cr–₹800Cr, overtaking #2Point0 and making #Jailer2 a new industry hit.
📺 OTT & BUDGET: #Jailer2 was sold for the highest-ever OTT price for a Tamil film. The platform acquired it because of its successful sequel status, the #HrithikRoshan cameo and the star cast #VidyaBalan, #MithunChakraborty and #JackieShroff. The 8-week OTT window meant a reduction of ₹40Cr in the deal. The film was made on a budget of ₹450Cr–₹500Cr, and financing interest alone could have added another ₹150Cr. The makers didn’t want to take that risk. The makers will compensate for this with #Jailer3, with a possible release in 2028/2029.
#KHxRK is Nelson’s priority in 2027, followed by #Jailer3 in 2028. The story has been shaped accordingly.
🎟️ BOOKMYSHOW & TOTAL REVENUE: BMS has reportedly sold 13–14 million tickets and I’m anticipating to sell 20 million tickets. It could generate ₹70Cr in revenue, while the movie is expected to generate ₹1,500Cr in total revenue across all streams.
