Sort of on this note, in 2024, Republicans were very close to holding all 11 governorships in the former Confederacy for the first time (at least in the modern era). But Josh Stein held NC and Dems have since added VA, GA, TX.
New England to Have No Republican Senators for First Time Since GOP Founding After Collins Loss Susan Collins’ defeat in Maine’s 2026 Senate race means the region will have zero GOP senators starting in 2027 — a first since the Republican Party’s establishment in 1854.

DEMOCRATS HAVE OFFICIALLY FLIPPED THE NORTH CAROLINA STATE HOUSE.

Roy Cooper still would have won without the six largest counties he carried, which includes most of the state's major cities.

This is how the South is moving in 2026. The South’s got somethin to say. And y’all are gonna listen.
DEMOCRATS WIN SENATE POPULAR VOTE ACROSS FORMER CONFEDERATE STATES Democrats won the combined Senate popular vote across ten former Confederate states, securing 20,782,908 votes (53.74%) to Republicans' 17,888,197 (46.26%)—a margin of nearly 2.9 million votes. The result is a major victory for Democrats in a region Republicans have dominated for decades. High Black voter turnout helped fuel the result, carrying particular historical significance in states where Black Americans were once denied the right to vote. Democrats broke decades-long losing streaks in Texas and South Carolina. James Talarico became the first Democrat elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas since Lloyd Bentsen in 1988, while Annie Andrews delivered South Carolina's first Democratic Senate victory since 1998.

In 2022, about 235,000 Mecklenburg County voters supported Democratic US Senate candidate Cheri Beasley. This year, Meck Dem chair @WesleyHarrisNC vowed to get 300,000 votes for Roy Cooper "minimum." I jokingly told him: don't make promises you can't keep. Look at the results.

“What's past is prologue”
Shouldn’t be a surprise but Roy Cooper won all congressional districts in North Carolina:

House Minority Leader Robert Reives walks on stage, introduced as the next speaker of the N.C. House, two hours after polls closed. Reives wipes away tears as he addresses supporters, joking that “next year I might be able to speak on the floor a little bit longer.” #ncga #ncpol

And in the North Carolina House, Robert Reives will take over as speaker with a virtual veto-proof majority, though he probably won’t need it. politicsnc.com/p/riding-the-…

Make no mistake: the pressure was on Anderson Clayton. NC Democrats elected her chair when she was only 25 (!!) because she said she could organize better than the @NCDemParty did when it lost every statewide race in the 2022 midterms. She met and *exceeded* expectations.
Last night, we saw what happens when preparation, long-term investment, and year-round organizing meets opportunity. Republicans tried to pick their voters, yet voters sent a resounding message that they will not let disenfranchisement win over democracy. ✊ let’s get to work.
