>did everyone just walk around with PTSD I think something along these lines is actually true, and is part of the reason the premodern world was so shockingly, and often seemingly senselessly, cruel and violent: "Ticking timebomb" levels of emotional pain were far more common.
craziest thing about history is how often your children would just die. and not that long ago. i'm reading a bio of Lincoln and it just slips that his kids kept dying tragically. today that's a life-defining event. did everyone just walk around with PTSD or what

do you know how crazy it is that Elon Musk is the normal PayPal co-founder?
NEW: In leaked recordings, Peter Thiel argued that Nashville should be a moral alternative to Pope Leo XIV and the Catholic Church, which he called “a dubious ally” against a hypothetical future Antichrist Democratic president. “America is the last and final form of the Roman Empire,” Thiel told a closed-door crowd in Nashville’s Masonic Temple. “There is no successor.” He has attacked Pope Leo XIV at least four times this year, once calling him “a useful idiot for the CCP.” thelettersfromleo.com/p/the-…

The day we accept that men are just as much victims of patricarchy as women are, will be the day we'll finally be able to dismantle patriarchy These boys weren't born cruel, they were taught cruelty because cruelty is "manly."
"Men arent bad, they're socialized to be selfish, violent, and to see women as objects" This is what little girls have to deal with. We endure casual cruelty and abuse our entire lives, but we're supposed to pretend males are victims of the same system built by men to protect men

In the piece I'm working on, I'm arguing that what drives a lot of AI recklessness and anti-humanistic sentiment is an inability to accept limitation (perhaps especially mortality) as an essential and valuable aspect of a human life. (1/2)
SITUATION DETECTED: OpenAI President Greg Brockman says he thinks AI will make “significant strides” in biology, health, and curing diseases over the next 12–18 months, and that “death becoming a choice” could become possible.

I still think the single funniest moment of this entire campaign season was when leftists were passing around a clip of David Crowley saying "we should listen to people we disagree with because nobody has all the answers" thinking it would make people like him less
Francesca Hong's opponent, David Crowley, says: "we have to listen to independents and Republicans because we [Democrats] don't have a monopoly on good ideas." Interview credit: @DanRShafer

Democrats have been gifted a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to finally remake the nation. The next president needs to be FDR 2.0 or this will all be for naught.

When looking at a map of Ohio, please remember that of the 88 counties in the state, exactly half have less population than the city of Youngstown (58,553 residents). It might look overwhelmingly red, but very few people actually live there.

The issue with “Are Videogames Art?” discourse is that too many people fundamentally conflate “art” with “being good”. Plenty of art sucks shit and is still art

America just overwhelmingly rejected chud so naturally Trump just elevated the least likable nazi he knows to chief of staff
Trump’s new Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller: America’s doors are closed fully to asylum seekers. It’s a very simple, a very elegant, a very… complete solution.

We're already seeing Trumpsters hopping off the sinking ship, pretending they were never part of the crew, and begging forgiveness. But sure, the libs are the ones who don't believe in consequences
I think this is basically right. It's a big part of modern liberalism that there should never be any permanent consequences, no things that cannot be undone. It's a religious devotion to optionality. No choice can ever be final, nothing ever set irrevocably in motion.
