Today in Panama’s City of Knowledge, more than 15 research centers from the @OAS_official Network of Centers of Excellence on Transformative Technologies and Panama’s research ecosystem came together to exchange research interests, and explore new opportunities for collaboration.
Representatives of research centers from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Honduras, Peru, Jamaica and the United States also got to visit the facilities of @indicasat — the newly designated OAS Center of Excellence on Biotechnology.
The day ended with networking sessions with local researchers, fostering connections and strengthening regional research partnerships.
Today, Panamanian authorities and the @OAS_official unveiled a plaque designating @indicasat as an OAS Center of Excellence in Biotechnology.
As part of the OAS Network of Centers of Excellence, INDICASAT AIP will serve as a regional hub for advancing biotechnology research, fostering joint research and innovation, strengthening scientific capacities, and sharing knowledge and expertise across the Americas.
A major milestone for Panama and a meaningful step forward in building stronger scientific partnerships, connecting research institutions, and harnessing the power of science and innovation to address our region’s shared challenges.
"The success of this ministerial cycle will be measured by the initiatives, partnerships, and results that emerge from its implementation."

OAS Showcases Its Results at the World’s Largest Conference on Shared Water Basins
The OAS Americas Water Program participated in the 11th International Waters Conference (IWC 11), organized by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) (@theGEF) in Bali, Indonesia, under the theme “Shared Waters, Transformative Solutions: Enabling Systemic Change.”
The conference provided a key platform for exchanging experiences and discussing the challenges of sustainable transboundary water management. During discussion sessions, we presented the results, progress, and lessons learned from regional initiatives, including the GEF/Trifinio, CReW+, and Bermejo projects.
Water diplomacy was one of the central themes, highlighting its role in building trust, fostering understanding among countries, and turning shared challenges into opportunities for cooperation. Transboundary water management requires not only technical solutions, but also a commitment to dialogue, institutional coordination, and strategic partnerships.
The conference also provided an opportunity to gain insights into the GEF-9 priorities and identify opportunities to guide future cooperation across the region.
El Niño phenomenon is unavoidable—but its consequences are not.
While severe droughts are expected across parts of the Americas, heavy flooding will hit others. With the peak anticipated between November and December, the decisions we make today will shape our reality in 2027.
To better understand these regional impacts and discover key preparedness strategies for countries across the hemisphere, read our full report: "El Niño: Outlook, Potential Impacts, and Anticipatory Action."
