Georgia is REALLY starting to concern me. You all need to pay attention to this one! 👀 On October 23, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr called for a new law that would make ALL kratom-related products presumptively ILLEGAL for retail sale unless the state specifically approves them. Yes, you read that correctly. ALL kratom-related products. 🙄 And here's what REALLY gets me. Georgia ALREADY has a Kratom Consumer Protection Act! ✅ Age restrictions of 21+ ✅ Product labeling requirements ✅ Limits on certain alkaloid concentrations ✅ Restrictions on synthetic products So instead of focusing on enforcing the regulations already in place, we're discussing making every kratom product illegal by default unless the government gives its blessing? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE! 🤦‍♀️ And what about the responsible small businesses already investing in independent laboratory testing, honest labeling, and consumer safety? What happens to them? And here's another question… If the goal is consumer safety, why does prohibition keep coming up before meaningful enforcement of existing laws? Georgia's proposal has NOT become law. But this is exactly the kind of development we need to be watching heading into 2027. I'm all for protecting consumers. I'm all for holding bad actors accountable. And can we PLEASE talk about Kolodny's latest paper?! 👀🙄 He literally co-authored a paper titled "Kratom Is an Opioid." Okay, Dr. Kolodny. Let's talk SCIENCE then. Buprenorphine, the active medication in Suboxone, is a partial opioid agonist. Guess what? Mitragynine, the primary alkaloid in natural kratom leaf, also has partial opioid agonist activity. Does that make them identical? NO. Does it mean either is risk-free? ALSO NO. But if we're going to discuss pharmacology, let's discuss ALL of it instead of stopping at the word "opioid" like that alone settles the entire debate! And his argument that kratom bans are associated with fewer adverse outcomes? Correlation does NOT automatically establish causation. Where's the evidence that banning responsibly tested botanical leaf produces better outcomes than meaningful regulation? I've spent over a decade in this industry, and I'm tired of seeing complicated science reduced to scary headlines. And considering Kolodny's documented advocacy for buprenorphine treatment, I think it's perfectly reasonable to question the consistency of his policy recommendations. Well, well, well… 👀🌿 The more I dig into the politics surrounding kratom, the more questions I have. And I think consumers deserve some answers! Let's talk about Senator Ed Markey and Dr. Andrew Kolodny of Brandeis University. Did you know Senator Markey helped expand access to buprenorphine treatments like Suboxone? And in 2017, Markey publicly pledged his support for Brandeis University's opioid research collaborative, co-directed by Dr. Kolodny. Now here's where things get interesting. 👀 That SAME Dr. Kolodny testified in Suffolk County in 2026 in SUPPORT of banning kratom sales, including traditional botanical products. Meanwhile, pharmaceutical companies selling buprenorphine-based addiction treatments are reporting hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. I'm not suggesting those facts prove some secret financial arrangement. But I AM asking why we aren't having a bigger conversation about the financial interests surrounding drug policy. Prescription opioid treatment? Expand access. Traditional botanical kratom? Support banning sales. Does anyone else think this deserves a LOT more scrutiny? 🙄 I've used natural kratom leaf for over a decade, and I've NEVER opposed legitimate addiction treatment.
