I always think back to when Volk was begging Topuria not to fight Max when Topuria was still a contender.
Even in the matchups he loses he's always been about it
🤔Michael Bisping praises Alex Volkanovski while criticising Islam Makhachev for avoiding fights
"He's a fighter's fighter [on Volk]. He steps up. He stays busy. He's not one of these guys doing an Islam, fighting once a year and then picking and choosing who he fights and letting contenders face one another"

Especially these days when he's fighting shorter and counter-bombing! I think he's obviously always had some nasty bombs, but in both Lopes fights he was putting the guy on skates.
Always suspected if he landed on Movsar like that he could end it, but definitely didn't call it

I'm sure it's been said, but it just occurred to me that both Yan and Volk are in their second reigns, picking up emphatic title defenses in divisions where age is not kind to you. What we're seeing from these two is not normal. Two special fighters.
On a real one, finishing Movsar does so much for Volk's legacy as he gets into his final fights. He's not just champion because he got to batter a fundamentally sloppy hitter for 50 minutes. He's the best in the division right now. He's finishing the tricky fuckers. He's on top

Well after watching that main card, you can keep your 12 KOs in one night or whatever. I'd rather just watch good fighters

Listening to my guy @JackSlackMMA talk on his podcast about those little stance disrupting low kicks that guys like Machida would use to set up punches reminded me of this thread below I did of Alexander Volkanovski, Jim Miller and Yoel Romero working off of similar principles 👇
It’s a small detail, but I love when fighters use balance-disrupting leg kicks to get beats on their opposition like Alex Volkanovski does to Chad Mendes here…
Debases the stance with an inside leg kick, then utilizes shifts, prodding shots and a high guard to close in #UFC266

In their first fight, to shut down some of Holloway's counterpunching in southpaw, Volkanovski baited the handfight to make his shifting attacks more unpredictable.

Shocked the UFC would release this. Its such a bad look.
New footage shows Aleksandre Topuria calling for the doctor after the third round when Ilia told him he can “barely see anything”
🗣️ Marc Goddard: “I’m happy to let this go. Ilia, put yourself back in the fight, okay?”
