Now THIS is an awesome early Christmas gift to the teaching profession.
Well done Ontario Teacher Candidate Council.
This is quite the decision.

I am pleased to say the Superior Court of Justice has determined that the legislative provisions that created the Math Proficiency Test are of no force and effect. @krushowy @snehduggal @JacquieAMiller @OTCC19 @osstf @OECTAProv @ETFOeducators @ACEPOntario

⚡️Breaking: Ford gov't loses another court battle.
Teacher Candidates just won their legal challenge of the Math Proficiency Test
At a time when we should be encouraging & supporting new teachers, Ford put up roadblocks.
Gov't also ordered to cover legal fees of @OTCC19.
I would like to extend a huge congratulations to @OTCC19 on their successful legal challenge to the Math Proficiency Test. A decision that reinforces the professionalism of Ontario teachers and teacher candidates.

Highlight: a justice sought clarification on the MPT pedagogy part. The pedagogy section doesn't test math pedagogy? No. It's material from two govt publications and 3 questions about math teaching. She said, a PhD in math can't necessarily teach math. You need to show pedagogy!

"Tests like this are a biased barrier."
This is a quote regarding the EQAO's own research on high stakes tests (all or nothing). From their own report.
They removed the report. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

29.7% MPT failure rate for Black teacher candidates; 9.5% failure rate for white teacher candidates.
3:1 ratio.
Was the MPT designed well for everyone or just some?

26% of the Ontario student population is racialized. But only 13% of teachers are from racialized groups. Students from racialized groups do better academically when their teachers are racialized. A less diverse teaching population limits academic success for racialized students.

Problem upon problem, issue upon issue, will the Minister of Education ever get this right?
Had to write again to @Sflecce, about the Math Proficiency Test, this time with @maritstiles and @BourgouinGuy.
The clock is ticking.

Delays, translation problems and punitive fees are just a few of the concerns that continue to plague the government's Math Proficiency Test rollout. @LauraMaeLindo, @BourgouinGuy and I wrote to Minister Lecce (again) on behalf of teacher candidates.

35% of French speakers who wrote the mandatory Math Proficiency Test failed. The #mpt is poorly translated. With odds like that, would you risk doing your B.Ed?
I wouldn't.
Start there, @Sflecce.
