I have heard from my Albanian-American constituents in the NY-17 who are deeply concerned about the ongoing protests in Albania and what this means for the future of democracy in the country. I stand with my constituents and with the Albanian people.
Every government, especially democracies and NATO allies must respect the right of its people to peacefully protest and express their views. I urge the Albanian government to immediately de-escalate tensions and end the use of force against peaceful protesters.

I am deeply concerned by the escalating situation in Albania. Local authorities must refrain from aggression against peaceful protesters, and everyone on the ground must work to deescalate and prevent further violence.
Michigan is home to a strong and vibrant Albanian American community, and I know these developments are very personal for many Michiganders. The Albanian people deserve a government that respects their fundamental rights and upholds the rule of law. That’s why I will continue to advocate for peace and justice for all Albanians.

I am watching with great concern the escalating crisis in NATO Ally Albania. The Albanian people deserve freedom, rule of law, and institutional accountability. The government must refrain from all violence against protestors. Young people deserve a voice in the future of their country.

The protests in Albania are a culmination of the people’s distrust of corrupt politicians and fatigue over the total disregard for the rule of law. Albania’s leaders need to heed the calls for substantive changes that will yield economic opportunity and foster regional stability.

🚨🇦🇱 BREAKING: SEVEN POLICE OFFICERS SEEN BEATING A LONE STUDENT IN TIRANA, ALBANIA
⚡️Disturbing footage appears to show seven police officers surrounding and violently beating a single student during the ongoing protests in Tirana.
.@ediramaal your days in power are numbered. No government can silence an entire generation demanding justice, freedom, and accountability. You may command the police, but you cannot command the conscience of a nation. Power is temporary. History is permanent. And the people will have the final word.
