Governors of Imo, Ebonyi and Enugu spoke at an APC rally in Enugu on Saturday, while Anambra was represented by Deputy Governor Onyekachukwu Ibezim. This is politically significant. But it is important to preserve one distinction: The political position of a governor is not automatically the political position of every citizen. An election endorsement is also not a referendum on Biafran self-determination. Meanwhile, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu and the Christian Association of Nigeria have rejected the inclusion of senior clerics in an APC campaign structure, saying the names were used without authorisation. That raises a basic democratic principle: Institutions should not be represented as endorsing political parties without consent. INEC also remains under scrutiny after acknowledging irregular entries in the preliminary voters’ register, including records containing photographs suspected of being artificially generated. The Commission says corrections are continuing before certification on 15 December. What remains unanswered is the scale of the problem and whether any irregularities were deliberately coordinated. On human rights, the Minna custodial-deaths investigation continues to demand accountability. Detailed committee reporting identifies 33 deaths, including 14 children, while Reuters and Associated Press have reported 37. That discrepancy still needs to be reconciled through authenticated records. For Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, his appeal remains the central legal process challenging his November 2025 conviction.
