people underestimate just how much work goes into building and growing communities, especially at a strategic level. from the outside, all you see are the events, the campaigns, the partnerships, an active community and maybe some impressive numbers at the end of the month. but having worked across community building, content, partnerships and ecosystem programs, i've come to understand just how much goes on behind the scenes to make any of that happen. you have to understand the market you're operating in, know who you're trying to reach and what matters to them, figure out how to communicate why they should care, and find the right channels and relationships to reach them. and the work doesn't end when you've successfully brought people in. you still have to figure out how to keep them engaged, turn that participation into meaningful outcomes and demonstrate how those outcomes contribute to the business. that's what makes these roles so demanding. you're essentially working at the intersection of marketing, growth, partnerships, operations and business strategy, even when your job title only mentions one of them. give your head of community a hug today, or maybe a raise, they deserve it.
