Grey November morning in Lancaster. About 12Β°, overcast, leaves everywhere. Hugo and Joe treating every puddle like a spa booking. Bonfire Night's done, and mud season has begun. 🐢 🐾 πŸ™„

Heathrow and Birmingham hit by malicious bomb hoaxes this week, with flights from Newcastle and Glasgow among those searched across Europe. Nothing found. The risk with enough empty threats is that someone stops taking the next one seriously. ✈️ πŸ’£

Draft UK-EU food deal: we scrap export checks, and in return dynamically align with EU plant, animal and food rules. That's not sovereignty with a smile. That's Brussels writing the standards and us calling it a reset. πŸ™„

Does DBE stand for Dumb Blonde Edition? πŸ§πŸ˜‚
For decades, the water industry has failed to work for the people and places it was meant to serve. I am determined to put the public at the heart of decision-making – shaping what their bills will be spent on so they can see real differences happening in their communities.

Cumberland Council's talking about bringing commercial flights back to Carlisle. Nearest options are still Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Manchester. As a north-west flyer, I'll believe it when the wheels leave the tarmac ✈️ πŸ™„

5th of November in Lancaster, and two English Cockers who treat every rocket like a personal insult. Hugo and Joe's review of Bonfire Night - zero stars, far too loud, needs more sausages πŸŽ†πŸΆπŸ˜‚

Β£100 off energy bills, says the Chancellor. Cornwall Insight reckon a typical bill jumps Β£276 in January. Yorkshire maths, you're still Β£176 worse off, just with better branding. πŸ˜‚

"Of course" they are, Emma. Funny how that wasn't obvious until the clip went round. Small business owners don't need a 27-second video telling them they matter. They need lower NI, business rates they can survive and a government that doesn't treat them as a cash machine. 🀨
Of course the brilliant men and women across the country who run small businesses are working people - they are the backbone of our high streets and our economy.

Fair enough for Ukrainian kids who were being steered into sitting Russian, that was daft. But a Β£340k GCSE that won't be taught until 2028 is a funny thing to be "proud" of when your own curriculum review is already late and schools can't find French teachers. Sort the basics first.
Proud to announce that students in England will be able to study Ukrainian at GCSE. It’s a chance for pupils to explore Ukraine’s rich culture and history and, for the Ukrainian community to remain connected to their heritage. This is another step in our enduring support for Ukraine as part of the 100 Year Partnership πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

The government wants new laws and a watchdog for live facial recognition. Good, rules are better than none. But I'd feel better if they caught the shoplifters they already have on CCTV before scanning the rest of us on the way to Greggs. 🫣

Ed Miliband says a formal slavery apology won't cost the taxpayer a penny, and reparations are ruled out. Fine. But after the Budget, you'll forgive a Yorkshireman for checking his wallet whenever a minister says "this won't cost you anything". 🫀

From 10 November, Ryanair closes check-in and bag drop 60 minutes before departure instead of 40. That's twenty extra minutes at the airport. Somewhere, an airport sandwich shop is quietly celebrating. ✈️ πŸ™„

Bonfire Night tomorrow. Hugo and Joe's plan: curtains shut, telly up, and some firm negotiating over sausages. If you're lighting fireworks round Lancaster, spare a thought for pets and the farm animals up the Dales. 🐢 🧨

Bonfire Night's on Thursday, so it's the week Hugo and Joe get walked before dark and the telly goes up a notch. Spare a thought for nervous dogs, and maybe keep the rockets for the 5th rather than the whole fortnight 🐢

Leeds Bradford's parkway station is back on the agenda, roughly a decade after it was first mooted. The plan is a station near the airport with a shuttle bus to it. Planes have managed to land there since 1931, but trains apparently need a lift ✈️

The PM says leaving the EU weakened our migration data-sharing. Fine, then negotiate a data deal. It's not a back door to free movement, which even his Home Secretary rules out. Meanwhile her ILR reforms were watered down within days. Control starts at home. 🀨
