I'm think the people making all these censorship decisions have fundamentally misunderstood the kind of people they're fucking with. ๐

Between governments increasingly policing what adults can access online, payment processors appointing themselves the morality police, platforms deciding which creators deserve to be seen, and an economy that's already squeezing the life out of independent businesses, and this political hellhole.. it's been a spectacularly shitty time to be a creator.
And if you're a fan, congratulations! You're getting screwed too. The things you love are getting harder to find, harder to access, and sometimes disappearing altogether, while corporations and governments decide what you should be allowed to spend your own money on.
We've been angry. Exhausted. Watching years of work get jeopardized by decisions we had absolutely no say in, as usual. And frankly, we've earned the right to be fucking furious! But outrage isn't a business model, and doomscrolling isn't a resistance strategy.. this shit is eating up the attention most of us were already running dangerously low on.
And frankly, I think we've spent enough of our limited resources reacting to this shit when we should be focusing on making ourselves harder to erase. Ergo.. they don't know who they're dealing with.
Tbh I'm getting bored with being furious, and now I'm back to creatively being a pain in the ass.
Because the people who survive aren't necessarily the ones who play the game "best." They're the ones who understand that when someone keeps moving the goalposts, you don't have to keep chasing the fucking goalposts.
And if there's one thing independent creators, sx workers, artists, and the rest of us professionally ungovernable $luts have demonstrated, it's that we're remarkably fucking good at that. Being denied permission and being out of options are two entirely different things.
We've done this before. We've built businesses when banks wouldn't work with us. We've found audiences when platforms wouldn't promote us. We created communities when institutions wouldn't welcome us. And developed entire systems for doing things that the supposedly respectable business world says we can't.
Here are my suggestions for both fans and creators.

We're not going to outsmart every law, fix every institution, or innovate our way out of political authoritarianism. Let's not insult each other's intelligence by pretending otherwise.
But we also don't have to spend the next years doing nothing but reacting to whatever fresh bullshit comes our way.
We can diversify. We can collaborate and share resources. Find new ways to create, earn, connect, and take care of each other.
And maybe, just maybe, we can remember that we're allowed to be ambitious about the future, even when the people shaping it are doing their damnedest to make it smaller.
So no, I don't know what the next few years will bring. But I know I'm done letting every new headline dictate the size of my ambitions.
We've earned the right to be angry. Now let's get fucking creative.

SO HERE'S MY CHALLENGE FOR THIS WEEK:
Creators, identify one place where your business is vulnerable and take one concrete step to address it. Start backing up your content. Research mailing list solutions. Review your revenue streams. Make a contingency plan. Pick something and actually do it.
Fans, choose three independent creators whose work you genuinely value. Find their official websites, learn where else you can follow them, and figure out how to support them directly when you're able. Make a little doc file for yourself with their links and social profiles so you don't lose them. Research how to amplify these creators per the algorithm for each site. (Like, share, etc)

AND IF YOU'RE A FAN:
Understand that your favorite creators are not guaranteed to stay on your favorite platforms. Following someone is not the same as being able to find them when an account gets suspended, a site closes, or an algorithm stops showing you their work.
Bookmark their websites. Follow their official backup accounts. Subscribe to their updates if they offer them. Don't make them start from zero every time.
Support creators in ways that *actually* benefit them. If you've got money to spend, look for direct purchases, subscriptions, tips, or other offerings they explicitly recommend. Dont haggle or look for bargains, it's fucking predatory in this environment. If you're asking for personalized energy, such as buying direct, be willing to pay for that on top of the content.
And if money is tight? Look up how to boost visibility for each platform, it changes every few months. (Right now it's copy post links) Do that on everything.
Recognize that convenience has a cost. The same platforms that make it easy to discover creators can also decide which creators you're allowed to discover.
If you value independent art, adult entertainment, unconventional voices, and the people creating things outside the corporate mainstream, occasionally make the tiny effort required to find and support them outside your usual feed.
And please stop assuming creators can survive indefinitely on exposure and compliments. Neither one pays the electric bill that continues to climb with data centers moving next door.

IF YOU'RE A CREATOR:
Stop renting your entire livelihood from one company. Your followers are not your customers, your social media account is not your business, and a platform's willingness to host you and your content today is not a promise to do so tomorrow.
Get serious about having your own website, a mailing list where you can, and a way to reach your audience that doesn't depend entirely on an algorithm. Make sure people know where to find you if your account disappears.
Get your paperwork in order. Model releases, IDs, compliance shit. Organize it so you can actually access this when they ask, because they will. Keep lines of communication open with people you've shot with.
Know where your vulnerabilities are. If your entire income depends on one platform, one payment processor, or one kind of content, that's not necessarily a failure, but it IS a risk you should understand.
Give people more ways to support you. Different products, different price points, different experiences. Not every fan wants a subscription, not everyone buys clips. Not every customer wants the same thing. And not everyone has the same disposable income they did two years ago. Yeah, it sucks to set all this up, but if one starts to slow down, you can pivot easier.
Backup everything. Don't have a NAS yet? You should get one and you should be keeping your original files along with the final versions. Why? Bc many things can be re-edited for compliance.
Start treating other creators like colleagues, not just competition. Compare notes! Share information about platform policies, fees, and actual experiences. Refer customers when appropriate. โจ Collaborate โจ Build relationships with people whose skills complement yours.
For the love of everything, stop trying to cancel each other for dumb shit. Who cares who uses what editing tools, girl were only trying to get paid. The enemy is out there, not in your heart making you feel insecure.
