Under 8 CFR 214.2(o)(2)(i), which regards filing of O-1 visas for artists: "Except as provided for in paragraph (o)(2)(iv)(A) of this section, a petitioner seeking to classify an alien as an O-1 or O-2 nonimmigrant shall file a petition on the form prescribed by USCIS. The petition may not be filed more than one year before the actual need for the alien's services."
The six months figure is from the instructions for the general I-129 but it directs the filer to read 8 CFR for specific regulations, which basically no one has here. Cygames had a full year to apply for this, seeing a 14 month wait time and still chose to cut it close. The didn't perform their due diligence in getting their performers access to the U.S.
The Umamusume concert in Los Angeles has been cancelled due to VISA issues...
For a performer to perform, you need a specific type of visa, typically O-1B or the P visas, which now take 8-14 months depending on the complexity of the application. But current rules prohibit filing Form I-129 more than 6 months before the date of employment... practically making it impossible to have it approved before it is needed through a normal process.
To bypass the wait, you need to pay $3000 for premium processing to have it reviewed within 15 days. However, it can lead to issues with a request for evidence, forcing the application to freeze right before the 15 day deadline, practically making the speed-up application process useless.
There are other consular delays along with administrative rejections and paperwork gridlock, along with unpredictable bureaucratic walls.
This also follows other visa complications, with Tarokiki being unable to perform with the Wuthering Waves Concert world tour in Los Angeles.... along with other K-pop performers like Taemin, and Japanese composers like Yuki Kajiura to cancel their US performance due to unpredictable visa issues.
This is all due to the increased scrutiny placed on the visa program, leading to delays even for well-known performers and artists. While I support tightening up immigration, the fact that the US immigration system can't distinguish between fraud/scams and legit international artists is... par for the course when it comes to the US bureaucratic bloat.
Currently, it lacks a specialized vetting track for legitimate, high-profile cultural performers.

It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the cancellation of the Umamusume: Pretty Derby – 7th EVENT: THE STAGE in LOS ANGELES concerts planned for Oct 22–23, 2026.
Although we have coordinated repeatedly with all parties concerned and explored every possible option in our efforts to make this event happen, we were unable to obtain the necessary visas for entry into the US, so we have come to the painful conclusion that holding the concerts is no longer possible.
To all the Trainers who were eagerly looking forward to the show, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and concern this causes, and for announcing this so close to the event date.
Due to this cancellation, we will process refunds for the following:
・On-site viewing tickets
・Streaming tickets
In addition, we are looking into possible responses to Trainers who were planning to attend the concert in person. This will take some time, so we ask for your patience. Details will be announced on the 7th EVENT WORLD TOUR official website.
Once again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes to all the Trainers who were eagerly looking forward to the concerts, as well as to the Umamusume cast, partner company staff, and everyone involved who put tremendous effort into making this event happen.

"Oh no, we must burn the constitution now because bunch of Japanese voice actresses can't sing on US stage!"
God, I did not expect EN Umamusume fandom would be even more annoying
I really would like to see this event but if we are restricting visas in America to the point where the Japanese can't even come here for a week, that tells me they are REALLY cracking down.
While this is very unfortunate, it does give me some solace that visa restricting is working and less people will be able to abuse it in the future.

As much as we love the horse girls from our greatest ally Japan, making the visa system actually function as intended (vetting people thoroughly) means that things like this will happen
I voted, we voted, for the system to be reformed. This is an unfortunate side effect
This said, I BETTER NOT SEE ANY OF YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT CHANGING YOUR VOTE OVER THIS
