Here’s a crazy story.
A friend of mine has his jet for sale.
No one in his company besides his business partner even knows they own an airplane.
A Netjets sales rep found their listing and called the front desk asking for the CEO. Not super uncommon.
But here’s where it turns crazy…
The front desk somehow connects Netjets to a low level employee making $65k per year.
The first thing out of the NJ salesperson’s mouth:
“So we saw your boss’s jet is for sale and we want to get him some information to switch to Netjets when he does!”
Proceeds to send the information on his aircraft, how much the Netjets contract will cost, etc (multiples of their salary for 10 years) and asks them to forward it to their boss.
Now that employee (and probably everyone in the company) knows boss has a private jet.
They found this through public record, but the facade has now ended and a lot of awkward salary and bonus conversations are coming up.
This is the plight of private jet ownership few ever talk about.
Nightmare fuel.
