October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
This morning, @OnondagaCounty Executive @CEJRyanMcMahon was invited to visit the East Syracuse office of Community Options @COINATIONAL - a nonprofit that empowers people with disabilities through meaningful jobs and supportive housing. He met several of the 25+ individuals employed through the organization and heard firsthand how their talent, dedication, and contributions strengthen our local workforce.
When everyone can contribute, our community thrives.
It’s National School Bus Safety Week - a perfect time to remind all drivers: 🛑 STOP when a school bus’s red lights are flashing.
Every student deserves to feel safe traveling to and from school.
In September 2025, @OnondagaCounty launched our School Bus Safety Program. 500+ school buses countywide are now equipped with stop‑arm cameras that automatically detect and record vehicles illegally passing when the stop arm is extended. Drivers then get citations, with fines starting at $250.
Here’s the great news: the program is making a real impact. In its first year, citations dropped from 2,127 in the first month to 172 in the last – a 92% decrease. Even better, 97.3% of those cited haven't repeated their mistake.
Passing a stopped school bus is not only illegal - it’s dangerous. Make the right choice every time and help keep children safe.

THURSDAY: You can attend an open house at the Regional STEAM High School.
The school is a great example of working together to enhance the future of our young people. Onondaga County Executive @CEJRyanMcMahon announced the renovation plans nearly 7 years ago and look at it today! It’s no longer an empty, deteriorating building – but instead, a powerhouse of innovation helping launch students into the high‑tech careers of tomorrow, and enrollment is open to students from across @OnondagaCounty.
The school was made possible through collaboration with New York State, the City of Syracuse, companies including Micron and Amazon, plus the Syracuse City School District and our suburban districts. By working together, we’re empowering today’s young people to become innovators and leaders.
Students and families are encouraged to attend the open house.
