the fedex guys have been completely disarmed by the presence of two sheep.
this happens constantly.
these men drive around all day delivering the fruits of global industrial civilization and then encounter two woolen creatures eating grass and immediately rediscover the joy of being alive (or question everything they thought they knew (or BOTH)).
I keep telling you guys - sheep are the answer.
Our little homeschool sports league is not yielding pro players, but the kids are learning the good stuff: camaraderie, teamwork, improvement through practice.
Still expensive and time-consuming for what it is, but it’s at least a break even ROI.
I don’t understand the obsession.
I played basketball and baseball in college. I wanted my kids to learn the lessons that youth sports is supposed to teach, the ones I learned with hand me down gloves and scavenged baseballs and the cheapest rubber basketballs you could find.
I resented being guilted into $300 bats and $1200 sportsball weekends so I didn’t do it. The stupid comments, “don’t you want your kid to get a scholarship?” Etc…
I was like, not really, maybe if they like it. I just want them to have fun, feel part of a team, experience winning and losing, doing their best and coming up short, getting a good bounce or a bad hop, etc and be better human beings.
I played youth sports, mostly baseball, my dad’s sport—he was great! I started playing basketball in a youth league when I was 12. I played 1 year of JV basketball in HS and then I walked on at a small college and became a starter. I didn’t know how to do a 3-man weave. I loved the game, and I hustled, sure. But I had a pure jump shot and a 36 inch vertical.
The talent was the only way I got that opportunity. Would never happen today. These kids get thrown into a sorting mechanism and the talented kids get more coaching, more floor time, better competition. The other kids get their parents to pay for a dream that will never come true.
Look what they took from us.
“AI bad!”
“No, AI good for everything!”
The cavemen will bash one another while the rest of us have reasonable conversations about acceptable use of these tools.
Didn’t expect this post to get so much attention. I try to be open about what I do, which is write stories, then illustrate using AI as the first step in that process.
There’s a genuine conversation to be had about the role of AI in human expression, but the visceral reaction I received is pretty insane. People see “AI” and lose all of their reasoning faculties.
