Abuela is definitely a victim and a villain, but the latter seems more unintentional. She does what she knows (trauma is a hell of a blinder) and doesn't realize it doesn't have to stay that way. She has some redemption at the end. It's not perfect, but it's a start.

Admittedly, I don't know that this movie would have had as big of an effect on me if it weren't for learning more about my own family's trauma. In short, good movie. Go watch it.

Sometimes the dynamic is: Parent Who Takes Lots of Pics & Parent Who Rarely Takes Pics As the Pictures Parent I am asking you No Pictures Parents to 1- do it more and 2- try harder to make sure the Parent Who Takes Pictures So Is Rarely In Them looks nice in the few they are in
