🚨 NEW REPORT "VULNERABLE BEHIND BARS Ongoing Human Rights Violations in Türkiye’s Prisons" A prison sentence must never become a death sentence. Yet in Türkiye, seriously ill prisoners are denied essential medical care, elderly detainees remain behind bars despite life-threatening conditions, and children grow up separated from their imprisoned mothers. Our latest report, authored by Dr. Fikret Demirçivi, exposes the continuing human rights crisis inside Türkiye’s prisons. ▶️Drawing on documented cases, firsthand interviews and international monitoring findings, the report reveals recurring patterns of: ▪️ Denial of essential medical treatment and humanitarian release ▪️ Inhuman and degrading treatment, including prolonged solitary confinement ▪️ Separation of imprisoned mothers from their children ▪️ Discriminatory detention practices targeting journalists, writers and political dissenters ▪️ Continued disregard for international human rights standards and binding judicial decisions ▶️The report identifies “deliberate neglect” as a recurring mechanism through which fundamental rights are denied under the pretext of administrative obstacles and institutional limitations. On 26 October 2026, 73-year-old prisoner #AbdullahTırpan Tırpan died following the amputation of his leg, despite longstanding concerns about his deteriorating health. His case demonstrates the devastating consequences of inaction. ‼️ These violations are neither inevitable nor beyond remedy. We call on Turkish authorities and international institutions, particularly the Council of Europe, United Nations and European Union, to take concrete action to protect vulnerable prisoners, ensure accountability and prevent further deaths. 📖 Read our full report and explore its findings and recommendations: solidaritywithothers.com/vul…
