Bharatiya Vayuyan Niyam, 2026: A Modern Rulebook for India’s Skies
▪️India is among the fastest-growing civil aviation markets in the world, with air travel increasingly connecting major cities, smaller towns and remote regions. The expansion of India’s aviation network is reflected in the rise in operational airports from 74 in 2014 to 166 as of October 2026.
▪️As the sector grows, its regulatory framework must keep pace with developments in aircraft technology, operations and financing, keeping a safety-focused approach at the pivot. Such growth needs a clear, modern and safety-focused legal framework.
▪️The Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam, 2024 provides the legislative basis for this modernization. Under it, the Government notified the Bharatiya Vayuyan Niyam, 2026, to replace the Aircraft Rules, 1937, which served as the principal rulebook for decades. Coming into force on 1 January 2027, the new Rules retain essential safety requirements while addressing developments in the aviation sector.

a guy from a village in west bengal built a powder that stops severe bleeding in 60 seconds. just beat 5,000 startups in singapore. this is the india nobody talks about enough.
Did you know that a potentially life-saving medical innovation developed at NIT Rourkela has just won one of Singapore's major international startup competitions?
Meet Miraqules MedSolutions, a medical technology startup with its roots in the laboratories of NIT Rourkela, Odisha.
Founded by NIT Rourkela alumnus Sabir Hossain and collaborators, the company has emerged as the Grand Winner of SLINGSHOT 2026 in Singapore, winning SGD 400,000 — approximately ₹2.8 crore!
🔬 What is their breakthrough innovation?
Their flagship product, StopBleed, is an advanced medical technology designed to rapidly control severe bleeding during emergencies.
The technology originated from research carried out at NIT Rourkela under the mentorship of Professor Devendra Verma, demonstrating how an academic research project can evolve into a commercially deployable medical innovation.
In February 2026, StopBleed received regulatory approval in India, marking a significant milestone in its journey from laboratory research to real-world healthcare applications.
And now, its recognition on the global stage has brought international attention to innovation emerging from Odisha.
Why does this matter?
Because the next globally recognised medical breakthrough need not come from Silicon Valley or a major international research hub.
It can begin in a university laboratory in Rourkela!
This is more than a startup award. It is a celebration of Odisha's research talent, academic mentorship and entrepreneurial potential.
👏 Congratulations to Sabir Hossain, Professor Devendra Verma and the entire Miraqules team!
From NIT Rourkela to Singapore — Odisha's innovation is making its mark on the world!
