She literally says: "I know there is more that we must do, and we will: We’ve put 3,800 extra officers into roles, with named, contactable officers for every neighbourhood. We are tackling rising rates of violence against women and girls through our landmark strategy."
Shabana Mahmood’s post selectively omits the latest ONS data. Domestic abuse up 7.8%. Recorded sexual offences to the police is up 4%. Rape up 2%. It’s no wonder her party dislike X since their misinformation gets challenged on here.

This is *stunning* a crystal-clear restoration! #PinkFloyd
Watch the newly restored high-resolution version of the iconic ‘Echoes’ sequence, the final chapter from the cult-classic 1973 surf film Crystal Voyager here: pinkfloyd.lnk.to/EchoesFilm The pioneering footage which became the film ‘Echoes’ was shot by futuristic surfer, photographer and filmmaker George Greenough. By developing and building a seventeen pound 'water proof' camera rig he was able to take the audience on a POV trip inside a tubing wave for the first time ever.

Hard to define Anthony Newley's six-part television meta series which began its initial broadcast on this day back in 1960. It tested TV genres and viewers' expectations. Much loved by many artists who went on to experiment themselves, including David Bowie and Patrick McGoohan.

These are my great-grandfather Dr. Sam Aykroyd’s transcripts from the Seances he hosted in the Old Farmhouse. It was the spirit of his work passed down through the generations that inspired my interests. He’s the original Ghostbuster.

I remember hearing that for the first time 50 years ago as a kid. Blimey.
Punk band The Damned release the single “New Rose”: they’re the first UK punk act to release a record.

I miss the great What is Prog? debate on here where the used to be a prog account that set the (arbitrary) rules, but the truth is that all of these albums were part of a movement which led in the progressive direction. King Crimson didn't just wake up prog, they became prog.
Nine pre-‘70s recordings that helped to ignite the progressive rock genre …

The next time Nick Clegg in invited onto BBC to pontificate as an independent tech expert…please note that here he is, named in the $27bn New Mexico judgment as one of execs engaged in a systematic cover-up of Facebook’s deceptive consumer practices.

The collapse in violent crime over three decades has been one of the most striking developments of my lifetime. News is about what’s going wrong, and rightly so. But the bigger picture also matters From today’s figures:-

Why do *men* have to constantly waste their time on ranking their faves? Who gives a toss Diego? Why not look a bit wider for your "Best Composers in History" (so far as you know History...) and just enjoy the music. It's not a competition its a communication, an entertainment!

RYAN'S DAUGHTER, David Lean's grotesquely underrated masterwork, is finally available on 4K UHD Blu-Ray. I am glad people can finally see its staggering photography in pristine quality. I hope it undergoes a re-evaluation & is reclaimed as a monumental work. 🧵 (1/2)
FINALLY AVAILABLE ON AMAZON: amzn.to/4dKHGqs This is not a pre-order since the title released on October 13th, but if you've been patiently waiting, you can now order. ALSO AVAILABLE on stand-alone Blu-ray: amzn.to/4dKHGqs RYAN’S DAUGHTER (1970) 4K UHD/BLU-RAY COMBO COMING TO 4K UHD FROM THE WARNER ARCHIVE COLLECTION ON OCTOBER 13th! NEW 4K HDR MASTER FROM 8K SCANS OF THE ORIGINAL 65mm CAMERA NEGATIVE! Previously available on Moviezyng: 4K + Blu-ray: moviezyng.com/wivnxq Stand-alone Blu-ray: moviezyng.com/bpjknj David Lean’s haunting masterpiece RYAN’S DAUGHTER returns in all its glory with a stunning new presentation! This is the story of lovely, headstrong Rosy (Sarah Miles) who cannot forsake her romance with the handsome British officer (Christopher Jones). Yet there is a greater love – the devotion of her reserved schoolteacher husband Charles (Robert Mitchum), who stands by Rosy when her illicit affair leads to a charge of treason. Two honored alumni of Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago – director David Lean and screenwriter Robert Bolt – frame this brooding tale within the expansive beaches, craggy cliffs and heathered hills of Ireland’s Dingle Peninsula. Freddie Young’s lush cinematography and John Mills’ memorable portrayal of a town simpleton won Academy Awards®. This remarkable movie containing them casts a haunting spell. #classicmovies #physicalmedia #bluray #bluraycollection #classicfilms #classichollywood

📊 The 2016 Brexit electorate no longer exists. Peter Kellner has updated the sums using YouGov and ONS data. Since 2016: 🔹 Around 3.8m Leave voters have died, against 2.1m Remain voters. 🔹 Around 7m new voters have reached voting age, overwhelmingly pro-European. 🔹 Around 5m voters have changed their minds 👉roughly three-quarters of them moving from Leave to Rejoin. His estimate of how Britain would vote now: 🇪🇺 REJOIN: 20.0m 👉 63% 🇬🇧 STAY OUT: 11.8m 👉 37% A majority of almost 9 million. Brexit happened. Britain has lived with it for a decade. But democracy does not freeze the electorate in 2016 forever. The question is what Britain wants now not what it indicated in 2016.
📊 The Brexit majority hasn’t just slipped 👉it’s vanished. Completely. This chart from Peter Kellner/YouGov shows: • 5 million 2016 voters have died • New young voters back Rejoin by 5:1 • 29% of Leave voters now want to rejoin • Net result: Rejoin 19.8m vs Stay Out 11.7m ➡️ An 8 MILLION majority for Rejoin. Britain is now a pro-EU country. The only people keeping Brexit alive are politicians who benefit from the damage.

Unemployment rate down to 4.7%, and employment rate up in latest figures. Now down 0.5% from 5.2% peak last year. Measurement issues in the headline jobs figures, but the quality is increasing so these numbers may reflect situation better than last year’s numbers. Vacancies fell again though, lowest outside covid since 2014, but also in line with average. By sector the levels story is as would be expected - concentrated in social care/ retail and hospitality BUT they were all flat in latest quarter, retail actually added 3k vacancies. General picture of a low hire low fire low churn flat labour market, with some interesting under the hood stories. Peak in long term sickness driving fall in inactivity? Down 80k from 2.82m in Jun-Aug 2025 to 2.74m. The small has occurred amongst male workers. Female inactivity is flat. Overall still up 600k plus since pandemic. Age hit - Over 65s fastest age group adding to payrolls - up 5.6% in year to September. 25-34 yo down 1.9%. AI tech jobs challenge? Not coming through in the payroll numbers cut by age, eg for 18-24 year olds, but sectorally info & comms payroll numbers have fallen by the most of any major sector - down 2.5% over past year, bigger proportional hit than eg hospitality. Clear public-private split on growing payrolls and earnings growth.

William is correct.
William Hague declares Trump the worst president of his lifetime, and struggles to see how anyone could have a different opinion. “This mishandling of world affairs … is the most serious development and negative development in the world since the Second World War.“ @StigAbell | @WilliamJHague
