We bounced a radio signal off Venus' surface! On 17+18 Oct the Dwingeloo transmitted and Astropeiler Stockert received the echoes, 42 million km each way. We decoded a 10-character message from the echo. And we're not finished yet: more echos on 24+25 Oct. camras.nl/en/blog/2026/earth…

We think a Tianwen-2 manoever happened on 7 June, as expected. With the Bochum telescope (@amsatdl) and the Dwingeloo telescope, we observe that a) Tianwen-2 is close to the asteroid on the sky and b) the line-of-sight velocity change (Doppler) now almost matches the asteroid's.

Frequency residual w.r.t. Kamo'oalewa, with an estimated base freq of 8428.201 MHz. On 4-6 June the residual is between 13800 and 14300 Hz, increasing. From 7 June, the line is almost flat, changing only a few Hz in hours. This shows the change in line-of-sight velocity is now close to that of Kamo'oalewa.

New blog post: Decoding Tianwen-2. I analyze the telemetry decoded from recent @PI9CAM recordings of Tianwen-2. Compared to Tianwen-1, there is not much in the telemetry. There are not that many fields and most are mainly static.

The Dwingeloo @radiotelescoop just received signals from DSCOVR. It had been silent after a software issue in July, so we're happy to see some signals again!

We used the historic Dwingeloo telescope to bounce a signal off the surface of Venus, and receive its echo! This marks only the second time that amateurs have achieved an 'EVE' (Earth-Venus-Earth) bounce. Venus was about 40 million kilometers from Earth. camras.nl/en/blog/2025/first…

New blog post: BGM-1 Doppler during the lunar landing. Some quick plots of the Doppler of @fireflyspace's lander as received by the @amsatdl and @PI9CAM groundstations.

A zoom to a region of a few minutes around the touchdown. The Doppler increases smoothly until becoming almost constant. This is typical of a smooth vertical deceleration that finishes with ground contact.
