Twenty-five years ago, John Ondrasik stood on that stage and sang "Superman" for the first responders of 9/11. This week, he stood there again.

At a recent Coldplay concert in London, two Israeli fans were invited on stage. When they revealed their nationality, the crowd had a mixed reaction and singer Chris Martin paused to say: “I’m very grateful that you’re here as humans… treating you as equal humans on earth, regardless of where you come from.” He then added a welcome to Palestinians.
This was likely an effort to do something symbolic for peace in a time of war. However, the delivery was clumsy and it became a painful moment for many Israelis. The two fans didn't need to be told that they're, “equal humans.” The ones who needed to be reminded of their humanity were the people who shamefully booed the mere presence of Israelis on stage.
This takes place in a broader context of unprecedented hostility, harassment, and violence targeting Israelis and Jews solely on the basis of their identity. Those who have a major platform, like Coldplay, should model what it means to treat people with dignity and respect, without conditions or qualifiers. And they should urge their fans to do better.

Musicians should bring fans together, not stigmatize some as uniquely unworthy. When @Coldplay frontman Chris Martin told 2 Israelis he brought on stage that he would treat them as “equal humans on Earth, regardless of where you come from,” he wasn’t promoting unity, he was erasing their identity. Coldplay’s London stage became a mirror of our times. Two Israeli women, Avia and Yael, were invited up in front of 90,000 people. When they said where they were from, the crowd booed. For a moment they considered lying. Imagine the fear it takes to hesitate before saying your own country’s name.
Chris Martin told them they were “equal humans.” But then, instead of letting that truth stand, he felt compelled to pivot. He had to mention Palestine. Suddenly the women were no longer people but props. Their identity was reduced to a balancing act for the comfort of the crowd.
This is the cruelty of the moment. Jewish women cannot simply exist without being turned into symbols. They cannot say “Israel” without being treated as if their very presence demands apology or counterpoint. That is bullying. That is erasure.
Avia and Yael were not there to represent policy or politics. They were there as human beings. They deserved to be treated as such. Nothing more, nothing less.

Anyone who supports Israel should leave a mark here.
Supporters of Israel should follow each other to make our voices heard.
Let's see how united we are.

You are correct, Peter! 1917, say most experts. Although one guy, an antique owner and expert, insists it's even earlier, possibly 1914?

San Francisco - the radical antisemitic group ‘Gay Shame’ marched during this weekend’s Dyke March chanting “Death to the IOF (IDF)” and “resistance is justified” all while holding a hate banner that read "Dykes Hate Zionists" (with a red Hamas triangle).
No one stopped them.
