For the first time in its history, the entire Caribbean island of Hispaniola has qualified for a major tournament.
Both Haiti 🇭🇹 and the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴, who share the island, will participate in next year’s Gold Cup.
Shared island qualification has happened in three other places only three other times:
The island of New Guinea this year (2024), where Indonesia 🇮🇩 (Asian Cup) and Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 (Nations Cup) share borders, although in two separate confederations.
The Emerald Isle, where both Ireland 🇮🇪 and Northern Ireland qualified for EURO 2016.
The UK with Wales 🏴, England 🏴, and Scotland 🏴 in the 1958 FIFA World Cup.
