Is my English really that bad? Some how I don’t read the word “download” as “upload to a third party platform”

Actually, do not delete your fics when the archive comes back on. Private them but don't take them off the site. Once deleted it becomes infinitely more difficult to prove authorship and thus more difficult to protect against scrapers, thieves, plagiarizers and the like

hi they're trying to make you hate fic writers so it stops being taboo to read ai fics

the fact of the matter is that people would rather humiliate fic writers for not wanting their fics reuploaded than care about their writing being scrapped and sold for ai audiobooks

In light of recent ao3 related events, I have stumbled upon a website that I think authors need to be made aware of.  The website ao3 [DOT] life has been scraping and downloading fics published to ao3 for who knows how long. 🧵

Going to trust that people of a community focused on reading is willing to read 🙏 here's what I think about the ao3 discourse. Fic writers are not being entitled by asking for respect and decency. docs.google.com/document/d/1…

I wrote an essay on the whole fanfic discourse explaining why I believe fic writers feel disrespected but I straight up do not trust people to read it 😭 eve. in reader communities, you hit 500 characters on this app and everyone hits you with the

Also ao3 is not even disappearing, it’s only closing for maintenance for a month. Everything will be back all intact and there’re no need for another ‘archive’ that is built upon people’s disrespect.

ppl on bringing up the ao3 download button to make authors look stupid when in reality the overwhelming majority of writers are talking about uploading fics to the google drive without permission and i think it actually says a lot that you need to twist the narrative so much

"Don't repost my art" and "Don't reupload my fic" are the same thing, I'm confused as to why people are surprised that authors are defensive and protective of their works the same way artists are.

this! while i prefer to be asked (because i'm happy to send you epubs/pdfs), it really isn't the uploading that's the worst part - it's the entitlement and the attitude? you do realize that even if the authors you're bullying aren't the ones you "care about", inevitably+

i don't necessarily care too much about the possibility of my fics being put on a drive i got other things to worry about but a lot of youse are sounding a lot like art reposters with your "um you posted it publicly so you gave it away and we can do wtv we want with it <3"

This is so purposely obtuse. There are real writers behind these fics and no matter how popular they are they have the rights to their work and you should be asking permission to redistribute them ESPECIALLY since this is a temporary outage

the way discourse is already turning towards this rhetoric that since ao3 is an archive writers shouldn't expect comments and should be ok with people mass sharing their fic and they consented to this because they're on ao3 is lowkey making me think about deleting all my fic

all legal arguments aside “you post your work on an archive and it’s FANfiction so you have no say about what is done with it” is just a take that proves you’re a shitty person because why are you so happy to go against somebody’s wishes?

Got sent this and literally made an acc just to comment because yeah, as a fanfic writer I'm not cool with my fic being reuploaded like this, and seeing fellow fic writers dogpiled just for saying they're not comfortable is pissing me off... (1/20)
