I'm going to try to change your perspective on COVID in under 2 minutes and I'm going to use this tweet as a springboard.
I see a ton about long covid from legitimate, scientific sources that if it was even remotely true would have apocalyptic implications, everyone’s heart, lungs, and brain failing at once, and I can’t square it with the world I actually observe every day.

So this probably won't reach any of the people that need to hear this, but the covid vaccine conspiracy theorists have been wrong about everything. They don't care if you live or die or develop lasting illness. There is a family down the block from me that lost their father

This is something I think about whenever I'm presenting information. I've also taken on the mindset that if someone doesn't understand something I said, then it's my fault, even if it's not. I find it helpful because it reminds me there are always better ways to communicate.
If people are collectively able to read and process at a sixth grade level, we need materials explaining things at that level in masse, without condescension, and with access to references cited.

"you're never gonna convince people to take covid precautions if you're judgy & angry on xitter" meh. people only care about your tone if they already don't want to believe what you're saying.

i would like to live in a society where it would be unthinkable - utterly inconceivable - for people to go to work/ school while sick

In new study, we show that SARS-CoV-2 has evolved decreased inherent antigenicity in humans, as quantified by a ~3-fold decrease in the number of naïve human B cells that can bind the spike RBD. doi.org/10.64898/2026.10.15.…

I've had a few people privately concede that they know that repeat COVID infections are harmful but they try not to think about it because it's too overwhelming. I think a decent amount of people understand this but they are stuck.
Has anyone been able to have a real conversation with a 'normal' person about Covid in the past 6.5 years? If so, what was it like?

when i started masking again in 2024 things got very grim for me socially, and i remember a friend telling me that it was clear to him i wanted to live because i was masking to save what health i had left. 180'd my perspective
People will not like this, but masks and clean air are also suicide prevention.

Our study on virus-specific T cell activation in Long COVID (LC) is up on bioRxiv! We identify a subset of people with LC with persistently elevated activation of CD8 T cells targeting spike and/or EBV lytic antigens, consistent with viral persistence. biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

The on/off revolving door of mask guidance in health care seems bizarre to me 😷 should be a fixture of patient care, just as gloves & hand hygiene are: not a seasonal precaution, but a fundamental part of our commitment to infection prevention, patient safety, and doing no harm.

I couldn't read for over a year after I got sick. I'd read a page and retain nothing. As my brain started working again, I'd have to read a page about 5x and challenge myself on what I read before moving on to the next one. It was distressing. I don't ever want to do that again.
I couldn’t read a book for over two years after I got Long Covid. Anyone else?

being anti ableism is suicide prevention but a lot of you don’t wanna talk about that because you might have to stop punching down on people you think are “annoying/weird”

The doctors fighting to expand the criteria for what types of patients they can legally kill, make my skin crawl. If they were practicing medicine 70 years ago, I have no doubts that they'd be making moral arguments in favor of lobotomies.

The irony of his final response, just dawned on me. He had acknowledged that if “advanced directives” go through, we would be in all probability, euthanizing people who did not want to die, but then stated that, that didn’t make euthanasia any less moral. When challenged on that point, he posted this reply and blocked me. I wonder if this is the same type of response that will be given to people under “advanced directives” as they are resisting and fighting against being euthanized.

Large upload from Ontario yesterday, providing striking revelations about the evolution of PJ.2.1. First, there is yet another hugely divergent branch of PJ.2. This isn't one variant: it's four. More & more, this resembles the emergence of BA.1/2/3. What is happening? 1/11

what a great reminder that sometimes people are staring at me in a mask because I'm doing something they want to do too. Breaking the illusion of "normal" is powerful, some have bad reactions, but try not to assume that staring is always malice bc it's not.
elderly lady in my music analysis course who gave me and my mask prolonged looks during the first lesson showed up wearing a surgical in the second. wondered if she was just sick but she still had one in the third lesson. might approach her next time to offer her better masks.
