Scaling tokenized markets requires more than faster transactions.
In the IMF’s analysis, more than 50% of tokenized-equity trading volume occurred outside regular US market hours. That makes dependable pricing, liquidity and operational support beyond exchange hours a practical concern.
The IMF’s October financial-stability analysis examines how shared infrastructure could streamline financial workflows. It also highlights the legal, operational and liquidity foundations needed as markets grow.

What must be true before a tokenized asset can serve as collateral in central clearing?
@ESMAComms has opened a call for evidence on the potential use of tokenized collateral by EU central counterparties. It is examining the full collateral lifecycle: transfer, management, client protection, settlement finality, and whether an asset can be converted into liquidity if a clearing member defaults.
That last test matters. Faster movement is useful only if the legal claim, operational access and safeguards hold when markets are under stress.
This is a consultation, not an approval of tokenized collateral for clearing. It is a useful indication of where institutional adoption has to do the hard work: enforceable rights, reliable operations and compatibility with existing market infrastructure.
