Acute Pancreatitis 🇬🇧 a National Cohort Study of 30 days after presentation
🪨 Of 2.5k cases 50% stones, 22% idiopathic
🧯 Most are self limiting, recurrent attacks are a protective factor
😱 Mortality 2% predicted by age, male, frailty

-High mortality in severe group. Where are new therapeutics? (RAPID-I)
-Can we accurately work out who is going to have a severe course? (Personalisation/stratification)

Interesting paper. Well done @misshollyman et al
Some takeaways for me:
-20% idiopathic; need strategies to make sure definitely isn't stones
-absolute no's high for lower severity disease. Big wins from changing care for this group Vs severe
But...

Key news from @DeMadaria and #WATERFALLtrial in acute pancreatitis. Stopped after interim analysis shows aggressive fluid arm (lactated Ringer's 20-mL/kg bolus over 2h followed by 3 mL/kg/hr) have 🔼necrosis, 🔼ICU admission and 🔼organ failure.
Bottom line: Use fluids wisely! – at North West, England

Replying to @COVID_PAN
@COVID_PAN follow up study of 1476 patients with AP. Thanks to all 52 collaborating units. Idiopathic AP ↑ in SARS-CoV-2 + patients (34.7% vs 13.9%). Lab studies to prove replication of virus in human pancreas cells is the next step! @EurPancClub @T4UGIS @IHPBA @GUTJournal_BMJ

Great initial data from the @Panc_Study !
Need to look more into aetiology and how to increase cholecystectomy rates during index admission in current practice!

Nice to see trainees presenting at @asgbi today.
However with a raft of single centre studies on topics such as appendicitis, isn’t it time to give credit at CT/ST application for contributing to studies like @covidharem or @RIFTaudit rather than achieving an oral presentation?
