playstation charged me for an mlb trial, refused to resolve it with me after multiple attempts and suspended my entire account when my credit card company sided with me. this is exactly why physical media matters. imagine having hundreds of games locked behind an account because you disputed one charge. you paid for those games, but sony still controls whether you can access them. that’s fucking ridiculous. i’ve never been happier to have sold my ps5, and sony can kiss my ass!

I’m a solo dev building Riftwalker after losing my job.
This journey is my path forward, and I’m grateful for this community. We’re already well over 8,000 Steam wishlists in a little over a month. I’m so humbled, Thank you.

This Jeff Goldblum monologue in “Jurassic Park” (1993) could well be applied to AI content “creators” — “You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you…packaged it and you wanna sell it…”

I don't know if people know just how valuable retweeting indie developers is.
It can add 100s of wishlists to an indie game - which can accumulate to mean the difference between a developer being able to finish a game and forcing them back into a 9 to 5 job.
Just want to say a huge thank you to all 900 of my followers, most of you joining us in the last couple of weeks. We appreciate you and can't wait for you to try A Short Quest!

All these posts about how AI is going to destroy Hollywood because soon you'll be able to make an entire feature film on your laptop with only a few prompts. What a bunch of bullshit.
Leaving aside the fact that most of these reels people are posting look like hot garbage. We all know it's going to get better and better.
Movies are still star driven. Tom Cruise might sell his likeness someday but you'll never be able to afford it and if you use it without permission you'll never be able to monetize it. Or you'll just get sued.
What about animated or fully digital films? They still use actors whose names you all know to do the voices. Even AVATAR uses real actors for motion capture. Why? Because acting is a talent.
But here's the part everybody forgets. If you have access to all this technology then so does Hollywood and their tech will always be much much better than yours. Suddenly, you're not competing with these bloated $100M+ productions. It gets cheaper and easier for them too. So any advantage you think you may have had has evaporated just like that.
Anyway that's not the hard part. It never was. Movies are about more than spectacle. Otherwise we could sit there and watch car crashes and explosions for two hours.
What's required is storytelling ability. Invest your time in learning that rather than the latest AI image generator. I have no doubt that these platforms will enable people to do amazing things with them.
But at the end of the day the only ones who get rich off of this won't be you. It'll be the platforms themselves.

You need to take a beat, calm down and read the room. I wasn't advocating for piracy, I was simply stating it as inevitable. Accepting it gets you further than fighting it.
And - once again - it often transfers into paying customers, as long as you're not an egomaniacal douche about it.
Players owe you nothing. A game is a *wish*, a HOPE that they will like it, and a hope that they will spread the word.
You are owed nothing. I am owed nothing. Not without WORK to back it up. You cannot DEMAND that the people you wish to pay for your game "must respect me or they're bad people."
That's not how ANY of this works.
