I like to understand how particles shape our landscapes in natural and human infrastructure - a fanciful exchange between order and disorder at all scales.

This is awesome! If you find a way to do use it in *any* class, lmk. Seriously, though, this is inspiring so many questions... it looks so uniform in "local" density change. Is it? how does it compare to compaction of espresso-ground coffee beans? Other shapes? grain density?
Wish I had the wherewithall to include this in clay compaction lectures.

Awesome. Do you need a babysitter? We're planning for a run a week from Friday, just in case that works.😉
I have run 3 experiments with baby next to me in the last 2-3 weeks and all the data I have collected is absolutely stunning. I may bring her to the lab til the end of the year! #babyluckinlab

Got it! My mind immediately went to... "is there something about the slope?" or ... much more physics-y. I like the contrast with the vegetation as well. Do you know why it slid right there? Something about very localized vegetation? or substrate?
Replying to @ParticlePrincez
I like the conical deposits and the clear scarp in contrast to the vegetation!

I love this meeting! I wish I could join all you sediment, particle, etc folks!
Two days to go until the EGU deadline (10th Jan, 1300 CET) - we look forward to hearing about your work on sediment transport. #EGU24

Do you measure or model how sediment moves? Share your research at our #EGU24 PICO session on monitoring and modelling sediment transport. Findings from all areas of geomorphology are welcome. Abstract deadline is 10th Jan. @EGU_GM @BSG_Geomorph @AGU_EPSP

Very cool! Lovely landslide! From one landslide enthusiast to another: What makes it a "perfect" landslide to you? I'm looking at it thinking grain size distribution? slope? grain size sorting? other?
A perfect landslide! Photo taken in western Southern Alps, New Zealand @BSG_Geomorph #BSGPC23

This is awesome and fun! ... but do vegetables really have the same shapes, density, size distributions of real rocks. hahahah kidding! kidding! Looking forward to reading the paper soon. :-)
My first #flumefriday post, looking at how small rock bags can mitigate scour. We might be a few vegetable bags down at home but they seem to have done the job.

Awesome Emma! I can’t wait to hear more!
#EPSPtakeover I’d like to tell you a bit more about my research today! The goal of my work is to form a quantitative relationship between transport distance and the roundness change of basalt down alluvial fans. I am interested in basalt because it makes up much of Mars!
