Rugby league is one of the strongest connections between Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Today, we celebrated the PNG Chiefs and the opportunities being created for players, coaches and communities - from grassroots participation to elite pathways, jobs and skills.
Happy Fiji Day to all our Fijian family. 🇫🇯
It has been a landmark year in the Australia-Fiji relationship.
Our Vuvale Union and Ocean of Peace Alliance will bring lasting benefits for Fiji, Australia and the region for years to come.
Warm wishes to the people of Tuvalu on Independence Day. 🇹🇻
For 48 years, Australia and Tuvalu have been close partners, with our friendship deepened through the Falepili Union. I look forward to advancing our shared interests and supporting Tuvalu's people, identity and culture.
Matt Smith and I shared some great news for FNQ.
At least two Navy Patrol Vessels will soon be home based in Cairns.
Bringing with them more skilled, local jobs.
Stronger defence industry.
And a big boost for the Cairns economy.
Australia remains steadfast in our support for Ukraine. 🇦🇺🇺🇦
I welcome the signing of the AUS-UKR Bilateral Security Agreement, affirming the enduring partnership between our two countries as Ukraine continues to defend itself against Russia’s unprovoked and illegal invasion.
UKR's hard-fought experience and innovation on the frontline offer valuable lessons as AUS strengthens our own defence capabilities and security in our region.
AUS has also imposed further sanctions on Russia, continuing to hold to account those who support its war.
Australia and Fiji are delivering on our shared commitments under the Vuvale Union and the Ocean of Peace Alliance. 🇦🇺 🇫🇯
I met Fiji’s Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo in Canberra today to discuss our next steps to put them into action.

Our strong community connections lie at the heart of the AUS & PNG partnership 🇦🇺🇵🇬
Yesterday I welcomed senior church leaders from PNG and reaffirmed AUS' support for church partnerships and their important role in communities across the country.
Today I want to pay a personal tribute to Air Marshal Leon Phillips OAM on his retirement from the Royal Australian Air Force.
During his nearly four decades of service to Australia, Leon has delivered complex aerospace and guided weapons projects with distinction.
I have worked closely with Leon over the last three years in his role as Chief of GWEO. Since 2023, the Government has opened a new missile factory, broken ground on a second, and we test-fired the first Australian-made missile since the 70s.
This and many other achievements took place under Leon’s leadership, and Australia is now a safer and more self-reliant country thanks to his service.
