You might've heard the phrase "SNAP cost shift" in the news, but what does it mean? Historically, the federal government has been responsible for covering the full cost of SNAP food benefits (aka food stamps). (a mini🧵)

The Senate Agriculture Committee passed a Farm Bill proposal with only a one-year delay and higher future costs for states. But temporary relief should not come at the expense of SNAP’s future! Take action: bit.ly/delay-snap-shift

H.R. 1 shifts SNAP food benefit costs onto states, and PA could face $525M in new annual costs – 410M in benefits and $115M in admin expenses. This could put funding for schools, health care, transportation, and other essential services at risk.

States are asking for a 2-yr delay, to improve admin systems & prepare before facing these new costs. The Senate Ag. Committee passed a Farm Bill proposal with only a one-year delay + higher future costs for states. Temporary relief shouldn't come at the expense of SNAP’s future.
