Lush to be featured in the latest @SeasideGothic , writing through otherness and distance in my essay The Jellyfish.
Seb signs off his letter beautifully...and I borrow it here...
Yours from the water's edge, E
It's here!
Delighted that my non-fic piece 'Being Looked At' is included alongside such talented company in the latest issue of @Gutter_Magazine
Exciting news!
I'm going to be writer in residence with Marchmont Makers Foundation in the Scottish Borders for the month of September, working on an art writing project I've been dreaming to have the time to develop for a while.
I have a short essay on the work of Joanna Piotrowska in the latest issue of @ThePomegranateM -- a more experimental piece for me, playing with the usually rigid form of the object label.
It's a piece about the illusion of the domestic as a safe/feminine space.
Arrived back in the UK to my copy of @extrateethmag. Read in one jetlag piercing sitting. Loved Alya Douglas' story "0.1 words per minute", all about difficulties of communication, between parents and children, between languages, across seas. Just lush
So enjoyed Rene Matić's show 'upon this rock' at @SLG_artupdates, a nuanced and open-hearted exploration of 'Britishness' working against the current trend toward a narrow minded bolstering of national(istic) identities
I wrote about the weight of the inherited image and how this is questioned and disrupted by the work of Jonny Briggs. Published in L'Essenziale Studio Journal V.4 in Italian and English. #amwriting #artwriting
Replying to @adriennecrezo
What a lush question. Here are two from larger series I find inspiring, I hope they are fruitful for you!
Chloe Dewe Matthews Thames Log (2021)
Francis Mortimer's Seascapes (ca. 1930s)
Both suggest very different relationships between humans and water.
♡ these lil amorphous beings floating around @Tate Modern Turbine Hall. Feels like we're all part of one technological/industrial/natural ecosystem.
Loved how tactile Karla Black's sculptures/interventions felt @fruitmarket, especially those dreamy polythene clouds.
