A year ago, the two of us left our jobs to start building an indie game inspired by Arctic expeditions of the late 19th century.
Here is a major update on The Perilous North: youtube.com/watch?v=MrJAo50A…
Thanks!

Almost 2 years of the two of us making The Perilous North.
Here's some of what we've done in the last 6 months. If you're interested in the game and want to helps us out, you can Wishlist it on Steam (link is in bio).

The Captain's Log is where you record the expeditions events was already in the game, we’ve just integrated it with the dialogue system.

The navigation layer now supports a flexible freezing system. Typically, the ice flow will flow down from the north, but some places accumulate more ice than others, making them more dangerous.

Weather consistency - layers deal with time on completely different scales, so it has to pass information to do with the world and crew state to interpret consistently but in its own way.

You see something you like, in the world you buy it.
We're making a system of trading inspired by Zelda, where buying items in the world feels more visceral than shuffling icons around in inventories. #gamedev #indiedev #unrealengine
As we’re starting to move towards having the main features of the game locked in, we can start cleaning up the visuals, and move focus over making the game look decent… And not feel guilty about it!

We now have status effects in the game!
These may require treatment, either sleeping it off, or in more severe cases, treatment on board the ship in the infirmary. #gamedev #indiedev #indiegame
We just made our first Patreon post free to read for everyone with some creative writing about Elias, ship`s physician❄️

Outside of the typical tasks in the game, we plan to have one off, scripted tasks that come up during the narrative, e.g. clearing the ship from snow while icebound, or repairing a broken camp you find.

What's the Arctic without skiing?
The game is a management/strategy game at its core, but... we both agreed it needs a bit of mindless fun, especially when it comes to the movement aspect.
It's already kinda fun.

They Brought Pianos Into the Arctic… Why?
Here’s a short video we’ve put together to show our love and appreciation for the setting (and all the mad explorers who threw themselves into certain death). Hopefully it gets you excited too!
