Know your history --> "In the early 2000s, it wasn’t a bunch of “strategists” who created modern internet marketing. It was community, a *culture* of direct response entrepreneurs, who gathered together to figure out how to take the available technology and create a world where we could make a living, feed our families, and build our careers." - @PerryMarshall

In 2010, I put out a set of predictions about where the next ten years were headed.
I hit about 80% of them.
I did it again in 2020, same result, 80% right.
Now we're two thirds of the way through this decade, and things are moving so fast, I’m not going to wait for 2030.
Join me at the next Perry Marshall Live, 1-day event
I'll release these predictions in Chicago on September 9 ⚡⚡⚡
Get in the room with me, it will be a high voltage time that will propel you and your business forward.

For most of internet marketing history, there was a saying every savvy marketer knew: content is king, keywords are queen.
Write good content, match it to the right search phrase, and you'd get found.
Simple. It worked for years.
But the king and queen have been dethroned.
Content is being replaced by context.
Keywords are being replaced by intent.

In May, Perry Marshall's print newsletter mentioned Imre Lakatos, a philosopher of science I'd never heard of. Three weeks later it caught a problem in our agency that was flying under the radar.
Jen tightened a call-duration floor on a client's Google Ads account so a five-second wrong number would stop booking as an inquiry. Small fix, logged, done.
A week later, different client, different session, she found an account counting one caller as two leads when they rang back. Cleaned it up. Also logged, also done.
Two good calls. Both quick fixes not requiring much thought.
@PerryMarshall's piece was on how you tell a research programme that's alive from one that's dying. The dying one never gets proven wrong, because every time reality disagrees with it someone bolts on an exception (a patch) and the theory survives the encounter. It just gets heavier. Eventually it can't predict anything at all, but it's never once been wrong.
Which is per-account patching exactly. Every fix works. Nothing improves.
So I ran the test across our Ops Log, which tracks every fix we make with the client, the date, and the reason. Bingo. Same fault, twice. Different time. Different account.
It was in onboarding. The setup routine had drifted, so the same configuration step was going in differently depending on when it was done.
This is the part that matters to me. I'd far rather fix one structural thing with real downstream consequences than get good at whack-a-mole.
That fix didn't save us two hours. It removed a class of problem from every account we'll ever open, before those accounts exist. Nobody triages it again. No client ever sees a number in a report that doesn't smell right, which is exactly why it's worth money.
So we've embedded the Lakatos test into Cal, our AI operating system. First instance of a fault is an incident: patch it, move on. Second instance of the same class, we go upstream and fix the cause.
Cheap to implement. Compounds every month you leave it running.
Somewhere in your business there's a next instance coming. Whether you catch it depends entirely on whether anyone's looking across the jobs instead of inside them.
Vinyl doesn't sound better than lossless streaming.
But streaming lacks the ritual.
Walking to the turntable. Placing the record. Dropping the needle.
That's ceremony.
Live business events work the same way.
You leave your usual environment. Shut off distractions. Get around real people. And something about that physical shift makes ideas sink deeper.
Even at a seminar about AI, you get to escape the digital world.
You escape the artificial.
It's about ceremony. Ritual. Creating a space where transformation can happen.
See you in Chicago — September 9.

I've spent years in peer advisory groups. They're enormously valuable. I wouldn't be caught dead NOT in one.
But I think we're standing at the edge of something that changes what everyone will expect from them.
History has a funny way of looking obvious after it happens.
I suspect this will be one of those moments.
If you own a seven-figure business, or you're building one, you should see this for yourself.
Don't take my word for it. Watch it happen.

SURVEY QUESTION: Suppose ALL humans took our hands off the keyboards. Stopped feeding the machines. How long do you think it would take for Google, Facebook, Claude and ChatGPT to grind to a screeching halt?
In 2006 I told a mutual fund analyst Google would kick Yahoo's ass. His firm had $2 billion split evenly between them. I told him: every search makes Google 10% more than Yahoo. Market share = daily advantage raised to the power of 3. 10%= 40%. Tiny advantages -> huge wins.
Instead of asking your clients to learn and master your expertise, give them the tools to CARRY OUT your expertise. perrymarshall.com/65014/expo…
