I have to laugh at the number of people online, including some in recovery, who try to diminish my recovery story simply because I support harm reduction. They're quick to label me a “harm reduction activist” while conveniently leaving out the recovery part. Apparently, believing people deserve to stay alive long enough to find recovery somehow makes my own recovery less meaningful. Figure that one out. Meanwhile, the people who actually hear me speak, sit down for coffee, or reach out for help getting a loved one into treatment see things differently. Even politicians have said, “I wish we could do what you're talking about. It makes so much sense.” I love my life, my family, my friends, and my job. Recovery gave me a life I'm grateful for. Now I'm focused on helping others get that same chance. I don't support harm reduction instead of recovery. I support both because I've lived both. So keep talking. I'll keep blocking the noise and doing the work. You can spend your time trying to discredit my recovery. I'll spend mine helping others find theirs. ✌️
