Biggest ever demonstration against femicide and violence against women in Prishtina and across Kosovar cities. Arlinda Zekaj was killed by her brother in law AFTER warning institutions that her life is threatened. Kosovars seeking resignations by Justice and Interior ministers.
Thread: No one really expects for the Student List in Serbia to embrace Kosovo independence. It’s also clear that the focus of the newly victorious movement will be the rule of law, corruption and “cleaning the house” after years of authoritarian and criminal governance. But… -1
There will NEVER again be dialogue between Serbian state on one side & an ethnicity on the other side. While Student List will be busy learning how to fight mafia, they should also start learning contemporary history. English excerpts from Bakic interview: petrits.substack.com/p/yes-t…

Seems the prosecutors in Serbia started process against the outgoing foreign minister and 10 Serbian ambassadors related to criminal acts during the elections last Sunday. Lo and behold, news broadcasted on state TV, which was under strict Vucic control.
The Times: Vucic put out 4000 members of the loyal gendarmerie in the streets as well as black-clad thugs, preparing for a coup. But as the victory of Student List became inevitable, he was talked out of it by European officials - including Victor Orban. thetimes.com/world/europe/ar…

📺 “We reported events one-sidedly for years”: Serbian TV apologizes to viewers after Vučić's party loses the election
Radio Television of Vojvodina (RTV) opened its news broadcast with footage of celebrations following the Student List's election victory — scenes it had failed to show the previous evening.
“For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly, and failed to ask the necessary questions. For that, we owe our viewers an apology,” news anchor Goran Eror said.
Following the controversy, RTV's acting editor-in-chief Nenad Čačić resigned.
A similar incident occurred in Hungary, where state television also apologized to viewers after Viktor Orbán's election defeat.
🎉🎉 Serbia celebrates Vučić's defeat all night — now he's warning the country about sanctions against Russia
After 14 years of Aleksandar Vučić's political dominance, his bloc has lost the snap parliamentary elections. The opposition Student List, which emerged from mass anti-government protests, has claimed victory.
According to preliminary figures from Ipsos and CeSID, the students secured around 53% of the vote, while Vučić's coalition received approximately 39%.
The former president acknowledged defeat. He estimated that the winners could secure 135–140 seats in Serbia's 250-member parliament.
But he couldn't resist issuing a warning about Russia. Vučić claimed the new government could impose sanctions on Moscow as early as March or April.
Meanwhile, Belgrade and other Serbian cities celebrated the student movement's victory throughout the night, with car horns, singing, and crowds cheering in the streets.
Final election results are still pending.

Protests tomorrow in Prishtina after another woman is killed by her brother in law. She asked for support by courts & police saying her life is threatened. Justice minister yesterday was scandalous, stating that the victim “should have contacted us, maybe we could have helped” 😡
Another woman killed by her so-called husband in Kosovo. This is just utterly devastating. The victim wrote a letter to prosecution and institutions only three days ago that her life is in danger. No one lifted a finger to prevent the grave crime. nacionale.com/sq/articles/tr…
There’s one Hebrew word I always recognize because we use it too: “chaver” or Haver - a Hebrew word for friend. I imagine it came to usage in Albanian in Kosovo (less so in Albania) via Germany / Yiddish.
Quite a love-fest on Russian TV. Student List confirms that new Serbian gov will not sanction Russia, as demanded by EU. Russia Today congratulates them profusely for excellent campaign and stopping ballot stuffing (oh irony). Seems Moscow has immediately washed hands from Vucic.
“1990’s breathing down the neck”. Good sentence by Arsenijevic.
Serbia is voting today in consequential elections.

"Wartime ethnic passions might have faded but, said Vladimir Arsenijevic, a Serbian novelist, 'the 1990s are still breathing down all our necks.'”

The Bosniak-populated region of Serbia voted more for the student list than all Bosniak parties combined. Quite a feat. While Albanian-populated region saw unification of Albanian parties and they got 2 important MPs. Congrats @shkamberi & co.

Quite a title.
Aleksandar Vucic, Serbia’s autocrat, loses to a bunch of students economist.com/europe/2026/10…
One lesson is that autocrats only lose when facing overwhelming numbers at the ballot boxes. The proverbial cup of frustration must be filled to brim. If races are tight, shenanigans play big role to “fix” the margins, from cheating to media control to lawfare against opposition.
