Giving every PhD student a Codex Pro subscription should be as standard as giving them a laptop. At least that's what i do. I compare my students’ weekly progress with what I could get done in a week when I started my PhD. It’s barely comparable. But that also changes what we should train students to do. Execution is getting cheaper. Choosing the right problem and knowing whether you’ve actually solved it is still hard and the value of PhD lies. Interesting times.

Above all, don't give up. Try everything. Exhaust every option. Knock on every door. Ask and ask again. Keep going even when you're tired. Be pertinacious with your efforts, your thoughts, your prayers, your kindness, your love, your work. You are incredibly Capable.

Academic success can be strange. You spend years publishing papers that sometimes feel like nobody is reading. Then one day you realise your work has been cited thousands of times by researchers around the world. A reminder to every researcher starting out: Keep doing the work. Your impact may be growing quietly before you can see it.

Every PhD student eventually finds a paper that contains their brilliant new idea. The paper is usually older than they are.

I wrote this in response to a prospective applicant whose email was at least partially AI-generated: Thank you for your email. Your project sounds interesting, but the problem is that there are sentences in your email that are composed by AI. 1/4

What a privilege it is to be able to run, afford a gym, buy healthy food, pay bills, have legs that walk, eyes that see, a brain that functions, work every day, and take our bodies to their fullest potentials.

One of the Best advice I've ever heard is: “Be so confident in Allah’s plan that you don't even get upset anymore when things don't go your way” Allah’s plan > your plan

One of the clearest signs of HIGH INTELLIGENCE is having no desire to be seen, admired, or understood by people, at peace with being misunderstood, and incredibly skilled at the art of letting go.

One of the best uses of AI (ChatGPT), in my opinion, is having it schedule short daily research briefings tailored to the topics of your interest. The amount of time this saves is insane, while still keeping you up to date with the latest research in your field. #AcademicChatter

Another day gone, completely drained from formatting 20+ tables & graphs. Couldn't even focus on actual research. Just a side quest in the PhD journey! 😅 I’ve revised these same charts 5 times now because my PI keeps forgetting their own previous feedback. 🫠 #PhDLife #PhDChat
