Eagles trying to hide Woolen by moving him to the field and keeping Q on the boundary. Doesn't matter

There's gotta be times when you just get your best on best in man coverage. It's a waste to have Q on Ferguson with Pickens scoring on Mukuba. Especially when it's 3rd & short and you're not particularly hiding you're playing man

McKee showing really good control of the operation of the offense. Looks way more comfortable than last week.

In theory the Eagles should be a more effective Duo team with Landon Dickerson back

That's cute
Potentially catastrophic injury situation brewing for the #Falcons in Week 7.

Idk how you're supposed to evaluate any improvements when you're essentially playing with a new team every week
Don’t see the following Eagles at practice today: DeVonta Smith (hamstring), Dallas Goedert (knee), Dontayvion Wicks (ankle), Nolan Smith (concussion), Jonathan Greenard (ankle). Michael Carter II (abdomen) is on a side field.

Tanner McKee finding DeVonta Smith in the weak hook on this same concept
I've seen a lot of theories about this play but this description is wrong. 2 things: 1 - Jalen has made this throw vs Quarters before 2 - The purpose of the play isn't to find Ertz (not Goedert) on the underneath zone. He's a decoy. The goal against quarters is to force the middle hook defender to match the #3 receiver & then throw into the void he created by matching #3. Should Jalen have made the throw to Wicks? Yes. Why doesn't he? I'm not sure, but he's done it before. Doesn't say anything definitively about Jalen either way. 🧵

The truth is this offense is just bad at the fundamental parts of playing football: Eyes, footwork, hand placement, communication, working combos, understanding assignments, alignments, leverage, etc. Even if you change schemes, which isn't going to happen mid season, they would still be a fundamentally bad football team. A large part of this is due to playing a 3rd string center and guard, rookie tackle, 4th string RB and now a back up QB. Another part is getting the team prepared to execute those fundamentals. The team is going to have to continue improving fundamentals because "changing schemes" is only going to result in marginal improvements.
Sean Mannion said there was “nothing earth shattering” in terms of changes that were made this past week. #Eagles HC Nick Sirianni said that Mannion would continue to call plays. Mannion said the operation in terms of game planning and play calling has not changed.

Why would he even want to play for this organization anymore?
#Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, who is out for the season after several blood clots were revealed in his lungs, has been undergoing tests for days. Before the London game, Hurts was in the hospital until 4 am and did not sleep because sleep was a risk. He played without having slept.

Starting to feel like hiring an OL coach that was not retained by his previous staff was a mistake

Pretty obvious Bhayshul Tuten wasn't going to be irrelevant in the passing game
I find it hard to believe that Liam Coen was scheming up plays like this for Bhayshul Tuten but he's going to be rendered useless in the pass game by a guy that had **check notes** 11 targets last season. Of LeQuint Allen's 11 targets last season: 8: 3rd & 11+ 2: 2 minute drill 1: down 28 in the 4th quarter

Perfect example of Hurts’ lack of anticipation. Defense shows a two-high, Quarters/match look. Goedert finds the void between underneath zone defenders. Hurts has to throw BEFORE the hook defender closes. Instead, he waits for confirmation. That’s a QB issue, not scheme.

Furthermore, Jalen gets a completion to Lemon later based on the same principles. The Eagles come out in a 3x1 bunch with the back to the trips side. The Eagles motion to 2x2 and because the MLB doesn't bump over and the safety doesn't rotate down, it's a strong indication the edge is dropping as the flat defender & it will be a two high coverage. They use a good wrinkle by cross releasing the back, which forces the middle hook defender to match #3 (and also messes with rules as the weak flat player often tries to wall off or at least collision #2 weak if he works inside; check the next post). Jalen finds Lemon in the void created.

Alright, so go back to the play that started this whole conversation. Eagles motion from 3x1 bunch with back to trips side to 2x2. Pay attention to the weak flat defender and corner & how they handle the bunch release. The flat defender looks to get hands on Wicks, knowing the void is created due to the LB matching #3. The corner will alleviate some of his stress by taking anything quick to the flat. Then notice on the play before how cross releasing the back changes those rules and gets a wide open look for Lemon, because the flat defender & corner originally think the middle hook defender is working towards their side.

One of the many things that makes Quinyon Mitchell so good is his elite football IQ. He has a great understanding of how offenses want to attack weak points in coverages, and we see that here. The Jags are running a concept designed to beat variations of quarters coverage. The goal is to put the middle hook defender in conflict and throw off his reaction. Quinyon recognizes this, reads the pattern, and jumps the dig. As we see on the other plays, ideally it's the safety inside of him who nails down on the dig, but he's not in position to make the stop. Q saves a big play for the defense.
Among the 49 defenders that have faced at least 23 targets in coverage, Eagles DB Quinyon Mitchell ranks 2nd in the NFL in passer rating allowed (58.2) behind only Byron Murphy (MIN). Mitchell is also giving up just 1.5 yds after the catch per reception — best in football among the 80 players that have faced at least 20 tgts. All-Pro type of stuff once again from 27.

Here's what happens when neither defender nails down on the dig.
