This is the kind of tweet we need more off. 🩷🩷
During afternoon tea, platters of honeyed barley scones, wedges of yellow cheese studded with roasted hazelnuts, rhubarb tarts with honey, bowls of meadowcream, crabapple cider, and dandelion'n'rosehip tea were passed around, their delicious aromas tantalizing.

I think this is something special: A rare document of an artist at work 117 years ago! I have enhanced for you this wonderful autochrome by photographer Antonin Personnaz, which captures the moment when the French impressionist painter Armand Guillaumin painted his oil-on-canvas work 'Bathers in Crozant', way back in 1907. It was photographed in colour and isn't colourised. (in the comments I'll tweet the actual painting he is creating)

“But I have lived, and have not lived in vain..." It is the 200th anniversary of the death of Lord Byron: author of the most readable long poem and the greatest letters in the English language.

20 years! No wonder I'm starting to feel more and more like one of the zombies.🧟‍♀️
20 years ago to this very day, our movie came out in UK cinemas and changed my life forever. Eternal thanks go to everyone who helped make it and everyone who saw it and made it a hit. But, wait there’s MORE! ... 👀 1/4

Here are two lovely, enhanced autochromes focusing on the theme of poppies (though both predate the Great War). These were taken around 1910 in Champigneulles, Belle Fontaine, France, by photographer Julien Gérardin. They are original colour from 114 years ago and not colourised.

An Irish tale tells of Murdoch’s Rath, a place surrounded by gorse where fairies danced. If good-hearted folk joined their revelry their pockets were filled with gorse flowers that transformed into gold, but the greedy were chased away through the prickly furze! #FairytaleTuesday

I know all the talk recently is about men’s obsession with the Roman Empire but have you tried asking the women in your life how often they think about Anne Boleyn?

I have now made 9 literature inspired embroideries, there’s still a long list of ones that I would like to do and also remake but the collection is slowly growing…😊🧵📚🌿 *completely freehand stitched, no pattern, paint or sketch just threads 🪡 #stitchedart #thesewingsongbird

‘Daffodowndilly’ She wore her yellow sun-bonnet, She wore her greenest gown; She turned to the south wind And curtsied up and down. She turned to the sunlight And shook her yellow head, And whispered to her neighbour “Winter is dead.” ~A.A.Milne #spring #daffodil #SpringEquinox

The sound that once sent a shiver down the Roman legionary's spine! The bellow of a reconstructed carnyx - a war trumpet used by Iron Age Celts, Gauls, and Germans to incite troops to battle and instil terror in the enemy.

Little story for you. Three years ago almost to the day I sat in Tate Britain, wallowing in this painting - John Everett Millais' astonishing portrait of Ophelia. It has always captivated me: such pathos and beauty, and such familiarity... 🧵
