☃️Who doesn’t want to build a snowman?! But could this photograph taken by Mary Dillwyn c. 1853 be the oldest photo of a #snowman? #PhotoFriday

I feel like this holiday season, it's important to remind people of the true meaning of christmas: ghosts terrorizing rich people in the middle of the night until they agree to pay their employees more

In the 1960s, holiday cards from politicians became less formal with the introduction of photographs featuring their families, pets and winter landscapes. It was a way for politicians to appear more approachable and human. Learn more, watch the full 📽️ bit.ly/3xGfWNa

This morning, we marked the official opening of our Preservation Storage Facility in @ville_gatineau. This state-of-the-art facility is an environmental🍃 marvel, providing a significant increase in safe, long-term storage space for our collection. 📦📚 ow.ly/GZEA50LN4Pg

As you shop and prepare your #Thanksgiving meals, we'd like you to know a little more about the work behind the ingredients and the people doing that work to put food on our tables. Here's a thread for everyone who wants to thank a farm worker this week. #WeFeedYou

If you think the cost of paying education workers a decent wage is too high, wait until you see the bill for allowing the quality of our education system to crumble. A nation's future is inextricably linked to the quality of the education system.

interesting to see Ontario's education minister complain that 80 cents of every dollar spent on education goes to pay and benefits this is also true of policing a full-time OPP officer who finishes training makes $75,000/yr a full-time education worker makes $49,000/yr

Happy Halloween! 🎃 May your museum collections and wardrobes be free of the dreaded CLOTHES MOTH OF DOOM. 😱 (Is this better or worse than my woolly bear pumpkin from a few years ago?)

I've worked on quite a few of Frank Hurley's amazing paget plates, taken during Ernest Shackleton's trans-Antarctic expedition in 1915, but I think this is one of my favourites. Amazing colour as dusk falls across the Endurance and its crew. It is original colour (not colourised)

The light in this autochrome is absolutely stunning! This study of three ladies of Lyon picking fruit during the Golden Hour, 112 years ago, was taken by Professor Fernand Arloing around 1910. It looks like a most exquisite painting but is actually a colour photo, not colourised.

Most silent-era film productions have been lost to time & hardly *any* material shot by Black filmmakers pre-1920 has survived. But recently, the earliest known footage produced by a Black film company was found, hiding in plain sight, in our collections. go.loc.gov/VNWH50L1gre
