Voters did what universities, the media, and many other institutions couldn’t or just refused to do: They repudiated Trump. Jon and Sarah Longwell (@SarahLongwell25), publisher of The Bulwark, assess the new political reality on a new pod, out tomorrow!

I rarely talk about what January 6 cost me and my family. The friendships, the threats, the party I once called home.
But today, I feel something I haven't felt in years.
Vindication.
We refused to bow to Trump. We paid a price. And last night, America roared back.
This one's personal.

I will ride for this man until the day I die. He got done dirtier than anyone this side of Hillary Clinton. Led the country after a botched pandemic response, made historic investments in our economic future, and stood up to Putin in Ukraine & the media fucking hated him for it.
SCOOP: @JoeBiden has been working the phones since Monday, making around 40 calls, as he watched the party he once led have explosive victories from his home in Wilmington. Biden spoke to Beshear, Lance-Bottoms, Bayh, Shapiro, Amy Acton, and more:

When I criticize Israel, their genocide, their government, I get to fucking do that and you don’t get to take that away from me”

I really really hate the both sides defense. Come on dude, look at any president or all of them before, compared to Trump. We all saw what kind of despicable people he was giving or selling pardons to. The pardon Power needs to be limited in case there’s another crooked president
Grown-ups in the room. Now take care of business.
BREAKING: Hakeem Jeffries dances on Mike Johnson’s political grave with the perfect trolling taunt after last night’s blue tsunami.
It’s time to put these fascists in their place…
“Mike Johnson was correct. The polls were wrong. It wasn’t simply a blue wave; it was an American tsunami!” Jeffries mocked at a press conference.
Republicans like Johnson insisted right up to Election Day that the polls were wrong and that their party would overperform at the ballot box. Instead, we witnessed the greatest collapse of a political movement in modern history as MAGA crumbled and Democrats swept the night.
Johnson has already signaled that he will not seek the role of House Minority Leader after Democrats take control of the chamber. In fact, he’s even floating the idea that he might retire from government and start a “lawn business.” He can’t possibly be any worse at that than he was at being Speaker.
“The American people have chosen the economy over extremism,” said Jeffries, who is the frontrunner for the gavel. “The American people have chosen House Democrats because they want to see a dramatic change in direction, and that’s exactly what House Democrats will deliver on Day One.”
He vowed that Democrats will use their mandate to tackle the issues that Americans most care about: solving the affordability crisis, expanding ObamaCare subsidies, reversing MAGA cuts to Medicaid, cutting of Trump’s tariffs, and ending the disastrous war with Iran.
“Democrats promised a new path forward, and last night, the voters delivered a mandate for it,” said Jeffries.
Now that the sun is setting on Johnson’s reign, let’s briefly enumerate his “accomplishments.” He rubber-stamped a pointless war that skyrocketed gas prices, oversaw the coverup of the Epstein files, and handed Texas to Democrats. He will go down as one of the most spineless, ineffective Speakers in American history.
Please ❤️ and share to wish Johnson good riddance!
Republicans are gonna eventually really like this democratic socialism. Once they figure out what it is, and read the benefits, they’ll at least selfishly like it. No one ever said let’s go become socialist. Just take the best parts of it.
Mamdani: What last night showed us is that Americans are tired of being told that their
needs are unrealistic by politicians who have been bought by the wealthiest people in the country.
This country has elected a new generation of leadership, a generation with a mandate to lower the
cost of living, to build, not bomb, to never betray the working people who entrusted them with
power.
And I hear often that the politics that we're fighting for here in New York City are not
possible outside of city limits. And what last night showed us is that working people are the
majority, whether we are speaking of Austin or Ann Arbor or Astoria…
This won’t be a revenge act. It will be a make them accountable act.
Can’t wait for @TheDemocrats to drag Uday and Qusay before Congress— along with Jared Kushner.
They got some tough questions to answer.
When will people learn that once you get involved and support Donald Trump, you always always always get burned and he goes away unscathed.
Please, please please Democrats, make this happen.
BREAKING: HOLY SMOKES! Democrats now control enough states to effectively abolish the Electoral College through the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
Republicans did NOT have this on their bingo cards...
Under the Constitution, states control their electoral votes and are allowed to decide how they are allocated during presidential elections. Currently, almost every state gives its votes to whoever wins the state.
In practice, the current system means that a candidate can win the national popular vote, but lose the election because small states like Wyoming exert undue influence on the outcome. That state has 3 electoral votes with a population of just 577,000 people. California has 54 electoral votes and a population of 39.5 million people. So a vote in Wyoming is essentially 3.8 times as valuable as one in California.
Since 1992, Democrats have won the popular vote seven out of nine times.
Under the NPV, states that join agree to give their electoral votes to whoever wins the national popular vote, not just their own state. So a state could go red on the map, but if the Democrat wins the national vote, they still get that state's votes. And vice versa of course.
The crucial mechanism is that the compact doesn't trigger until the member states have a combined power of at least 270 electoral votes, the number needed to win the White House. So far, 18 states plus D.C. have joined, totaling 222 electoral votes. We only need 48 more.
Now is the chance to pass this measure in every state possible. Democrats won both houses of the legislature in Wisconsin for the first time in 18 years (10 electoral votes). We won the Pennsylvania state Senate for the first time since 1993 (19 votes). We now have a trifecta in Michigan (15 votes). And we won the governor’s race in Nevada (6 votes).
10 + 19 + 15 + 6 = 50.
222 + 50 = 272.
And if we hold our lead in the Arizona Senate, that number could climb as high as 283, more than enough to trigger the compact.
In addition to removing an imbalance in our system that favors Republicans, this novel approach would fundamentally change how candidates run their presidential campaigns. Currently, they are incentivized to ignore most of the country. If you live in a “safe” state, red or blue, your vote for President is basically decided before you cast it. Campaigns spend their time and money in a handful of swing states while the rest of us watch from the sidelines. If the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is adopted, they'll have reason to hit every state because they're aiming to win the largest swath of the country as a whole, not just certain states.
States have until July 20, 2028 to join the compact in time for the next presidential election.
We can fix our democracy. The time is now.
Please ❤️ and share if you support this idea!

"This is far worse than anyone would’ve expected. Breakup of the GOP as we currently know it. House gone till at least 2030, Senate till 2032. JD Vance waving goodbye to 2028!"
