The rise of Pinyin is like a slow tide, catching the daydreamer unawares.

Not a Halloween-specific feature of Chinese 😅—just a spectrogram showing sound energy across frequencies over time, including the pitch patterns of the four tones. Though I admit, it does look like a ghost! 👻 Practice your Pinyin tones here: pinyinexplorer.com/sbmini/

1.2+ million impressions on my posts in the past month, and I’m still waiting for someone to actually use Pīnyīn Explorer and share their experience. 😅 Who's up for studying Chinese together?

I've added a graded reader to the reading list on the Pinyin Explorer website… tongue in cheek! 🤣 pinyinexplorer.com/exercises…

I've cleaned up & updated the Exercises page! It now has two sections for 1. Pinyin pronunciation drills and 2. reading-aloud exercises. I've also added a classic text with clear audio for Mandarin listening and reading practice. Give it a try! 😄 pinyinexplorer.com/exercises…

Hanzi-based study: • Remember the specific definition, • character components, • the radical, • stroke order, • pronunciation, • the little story about how the character evolved into its modern form ️Pīnyīn Explorer: • Remember the most common meanings

One of them is by far more common than the others. That's the one you should learn first. I usually use Pinyin Explorer with Hanzi (Chinese characters) hidden, turned off. Peace of mind!

Nice story. Still don't know what it means. You could have used your time better: THE MOST COMMON MEANING OF "MÀN" IS "SLOW". But if you study with Hanzi, you first have to learn that there's 13 different characters reading "màn", and only the most common (慢) means "slow". 🥱

Hey girls and boys, quick question! 😂 Every day I get lots of comments that have nothing to do with the actual Pīnyīn Explorer method…… just the same recycled nonsense delivered with absolute confidence. What should I do with these intellectual masterpieces?

🆕✅ I've just added a new list "MIX+" to the Tone Drill on Pīnyīn Explorer! I slimmed the original MIX down to the 100 most frequent words, and added 240 to MIX+ (all 20 tone combos for extended practice) 💪🏋️‍♂️🙇‍♂️ Happy listening & shadowing! Great success! Link👇

Pinyin transcribed by Gemini, and then fix common spelling mistakes with my simple search-replace script (free on Github), this pipeline actually produces quite readable Pinyin!

I've just noticed that you can drop Pinyin directly into Google Translate, very convenient! You can use Peekaboo Reader for reading and transcribing Hanzi to Pinyin, and then just drop whatever part you have difficulties with into Google for whole text translation. Nice!
