Sad news: PLAY DISC is going into an indefinite hiatus. We've closed out the RSS feed as of today. Finished content will be made available on Jon's website, but no longer published to podcatchers. Follow @JonPorobil for more music discussion, and check out his music too.
We had three episodes recorded but not published. We'll make those available too, though no promises on the timeline for that.
Big thanks to everyone who listened to our show and joined the conversation. It was fun, and we might come back in some form at some point. If you need your album fix, check out @PodcastRecords, @LoveThisRecord1, @pickadisc, or @AudioJudo!
"All Star" has transcended its status as a pop hit and become a meme. A lot of it is Youtube "All Star but it's..." jokes, but memes come in many forms. Take for instance friend-of-the-show @glenncase's double albums So Much To Do/So Much To See: glenncase.bandcamp.com/album…
And there's the other half: glenncase.bandcamp.com/album…
Glenn took the chorus of "All Star" and broke it up into 24 pieces to serve as the titles of the songs on these albums, and released it on April Fools' Day of last year.
We talk about "All Star" memes and other aspects of Smash Mouth's strange career in our latest episode of PLAY DISC, available free now on Apple Podcasts, or anywhere podcasts are found! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…
Our friends at @PodcastRecords covered another Billy Joel album. Surely you know how we feel about Mr. Joel! #billyjoelforever
New episode alert! We were joined by National Soccer Hall of Famer @AlexiLalas to talk about Billy Joel's classic "Glass Houses." We talk about the worst song Billy Joel wrote (Billy's words, not mine) and, naturally, we talk soccer as well! #billyjoel

In our most recent episode, Jon spoke about all the "All Star but" memes. Here's "All Star But It's a Bach Chorale" as brought up in the episode. youtu.be/Ey5GItze-BY
And then here's a real choir that performed this same arrangement but for real. youtu.be/RZBKczIlZMM
We used a clip of this in the episode!
Make sure to check out our discussion on Smash Mouth's Astro Lounge if you haven't heard it yet.

We applaud Tom Lehrer's decision to effectively release all of his songs into the Public Domain today. We need more people like Tom Lehrer in the music business. tomlehrersongs.com
