India, as the 2026 Kimberley Process Chair, convened a consultation under Shri Yashvir Singh, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, in Luanda, Angola, on the sidelines of ADPA@20 with Working Group Chairs, Vice Chairs and Observers of the Kimberley Process to deliberate on key institutional and policy priorities. Discussions covered the status of the diamond industry, including sustainability, funding of the KP Secretariat, digitalisation and compliance. The deliberations will help build a shared understanding and inform the way forward for the KP Plenary in New Delhi, scheduled from November 30 to December 4, 2026, preceded by the New Delhi Diamond Dialogue (KP Forum) on November 29, 2026. The Department of Commerce, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), and in association with the Industries & Mines Department, Government of Gujarat, organised a State-Level Workshop on “Leveraging FTAs – Outreach Programme” at Gandhinagar to strengthen export competitiveness and promote greater participation of MSMEs in global trade. The workshop brought together government officials, industry representatives and export promotion agencies to discuss preferential market access under India's FTAs, sector-specific export opportunities, Rules of Origin and international quality standards. India’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) offer preferential market access for eligible Indian goods and services, subject to the provisions of each agreement. The outreach programme in Jaipur brought exporters and stakeholders together to discuss tariff preferences, Rules of Origin, quality and certification requirements, and sector-specific opportunities, particularly in gems and jewellery.
