Officers Commanding Stations (OCS) within Nairobi convened at the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong to give their views on the establishment of the Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit. One message stood out clearly that policing in the city will be most effective when communities, through their estates and neighbourhoods, have a stronger sense of ownership over the police stations that serve them. This means empowering the County government @047County, residents’ associations @KARA_OfficialKE and other local stakeholders to play a greater role in supporting policing infrastructure, personnel and service delivery.

Training plays a crucial role in developing disciplined, professional, and community-focused law enforcement officers. Today, I held an interactive session with the staff and leadership at the National Police College at Kiganjo Main Campus. I affirmed the government's dedication to enhancing police training and improving the welfare of police trainers, among other strategic reforms aimed at enhancing service delivery to wananchi. To improve professionalism, we have rolled out continuous training on tactical operations, human rights, ICT, and emerging security dynamics in line with the evolving needs of Kenyans. To support these efforts, we are upgrading infrastructure in police training institutions across the country. We are also implementing wide-ranging welfare reforms to improve the working conditions and morale of our officers. These ongoing reforms include addressing stagnation in promotions, strengthening psychosocial support as well as improving mobility and housing. As we continue to implement these reforms, I urge all police officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights. I was accompanied by the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, DIG (KPS) Eliud Lagat, College Commandant Nyale Munga and Central Regional Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha, among other senior Government officials.

SAFETY ADVISORY FOLLOWING HEAVY RAINS, FLOODING AND SEVERE WEATHER RISKS The National Police Service, in coordination with other government agencies, remains on high alert as persistent heavy rains continue to affect several parts of the country. The situation has already resulted in significant disruption and damage, underscoring the seriousness of the ongoing weather conditions and the need for heightened public vigilance. Within Nairobi, the situation is further exacerbated by rapidly rising water levels in major rivers, including the Nairobi, Mathare, Ngong, Kamiti and Athi rivers. These waterways all drain into the larger Athi River system, which is currently running at critically high levels. As a result, communities downstream face a heightened risk of flooding, even in areas where rainfall may appear minimal. This downstream effect makes the situation particularly unpredictable and dangerous; therefore, special caution should be exercised in relation to flash floods, which can develop rapidly and without warning, often catching people off guard. Transport networks are under increasing strain, with several critical routes at risk of becoming impassable. In addition, poor visibility, waterlogged surfaces and uncertain road conditions are significantly increasing the risk of accidents for all road users. Given these conditions, the public is strongly urged to exercise extreme caution at all times by avoiding driving through or walking in moving water, as even shallow currents can be deceptively strong and capable of sweeping away vehicles or individuals. The public is further encouraged to take proactive measures to safeguard themselves and their families. Residents in flood-prone areas should be prepared to relocate to higher ground without delay if advised to do so. Staying informed through regular updates from the Kenya Meteorological Department and local authorities is essential. Community alerts and evacuation instructions must be followed promptly and without hesitation, as delays can place lives at greater risk. The National Police Service remains vigilant and reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding lives and property. The public can reach us on our emergency lines: 999 or 911. Members of the public may also report incidents via #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203 (toll-free) or through WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.

Our officers in the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission to Haiti served with utmost dedication and raised our Kenyan flag high. Working with Haiti National Police and other MSS officers, they secured critical infrastructure, including the airport, seaport, and major transport corridors. They also restored state presence in previously inaccessible areas and supported the reopening of schools, hospitals, and businesses. Held engagements with Haitian authorities and the diplomatic community at Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince, and oversaw the final drawdown of the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support mission. The drawdown of the last contingent of 150 Kenyan officers marks the end of the MSS and the successful transition to the Gang Suppression Force. Though the Mission has ended, Kenya’s solidarity with the people of Haiti is enduring. We extend our sincere appreciation to all partners who supported this Mission and reaffirm our commitment to multilateral cooperation in the maintenance of global peace and security. Present were Haitian Defence Minister Mario Andrésol, Director General of the Haitian National Police André Jonas Vladimir Paraison and the Gang Suppression Force Special Representative Jack Christofides. POLICE OFFICERS TURN COMPASSION INTO ACTION THROUGH BLOOD DONATION In a powerful demonstration of service and humanity, police officers in Kisii County yesterday took part in a blood donation drive conducted by medical personnel from Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital. This was a full-circle act of duty, as officers entrusted with maintaining law and order extended their mission beyond protecting lives on the streets to actively preserving them within medical settings, demonstrating a profound commitment to humanity that reaches beyond their call of duty and touches lives. By donating blood, they directly contributed to saving lives, supporting patients in critical need, including accident victims, mothers during childbirth, and individuals living with conditions such as sickle cell disease. Beyond its immediate life-saving impact, the activity significantly enhanced police–public relations, as the officers were also joined by members of the public. The drive offered a platform for interaction outside of enforcement contexts, allowing the community to see police officers as partners in service and compassion. As the Easter celebrations continue — a period often associated with sacrifice, renewal, and hope — the blood donation indeed symbolised selfless giving for the well-being of others, reflecting the true spirit of the season.
