One of the reasons I've been quiet on Twitter for a few months is because I've been working on something big - something I'm really happy to share now! Pathoplexus.org A new, open-source database for pathogen sequence sharing. 👐🧬🌎 1/12

If there was only one scientific practice I could teach to every scientist regardless of stage or field I think it would be: look at the data. Spot check it. Find a few data points and trace them through to see if they make sense. Look at the raw data. Don't just do analyses.

Please keep the #SwineFlu UK case in perspective. It isn't yet a pandemic. And if it had the potential to be so, most people would have cross-reactive immunity from the #H1 strains they have probably already seen.

Lots of COVID hindsight going around today. I checked back, and I didn't bother asking my Virology WhatsApp (support) group about it till January 8th. Retrospective testing in Nottingham found cases going back to 21st Feb that were missed. microbiologyresearch.org/con…

Have you ever wondered why some #viruses circulate primarily in the winter and others are more prevalent in the summer? Although we don’t have a clear answer to this question, a combination of factors is likely responsible. A 🧵, also at virology blog. 1/

This Gisaid story is absolutely wild and well worth a read! The virology community*really* needs to make submission to ENA and/or Genbank as easy as to Gisaid.
